Brothers From Another Explicit Lyrics

Description:

The Young Gunz have returned with their sophomore album entitled BROTHERS FROM ANOTHER. This album features 11 cuts with tracks from such great producers such as Swizz Beats and Just Blaze to name a few. The first single "Set It Off" produced by none other than Swizz Beats is a hearfelt track with the emotional sentiment along the lines fo the hit "You Gotsta Chill" by EPMD.

Amazon.com

Compared to Beanie Siegel, whose B.Coming album boasted a dramatic back story and to Memphis Bleek's 534 which had Jay-Z back again from retirement, Chris and Neef (aka Young Gunz) saw Brother from Another released with little Roc-A-Fella fanfare. Perhaps it's just as well since this CD suffers from the sophomore slump syndrome--a lack of good ideas and uninspired execution. It's not like Gunz are the deepest artists on the roster but their first album, Tough Love, had quality club cuts ("Friday Night," and "Can't Stop, Won't Stop"). Brother lacks stand-out tracks, save for "Set It Off," a mid-tempo anthem. Neef and Chris sound fine on mic--they have a good chemistry and their hooks are solid. They just don't quite find the right groove to get it up and running. --Oliver Wang

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Because They're From Philly

K.A.J. · June 10, 2005

First I really would give this a 4 1/2 and just because the young gunz are from the same place I'm from it doesn't give them any type of advantage when it comes to reviewing their albums. I think the biggest and only problems with this album is the formula and originality. I think the young gunz are nice but they need to get out of the regular mixtape lyrics and start putting some deep thought into what they write this is probably why this album is being rated so low and that the gunz aren't really ready to put out an album with such a low amount of tracks. People who don't have a lot of interest in mixtapes or the freestyling style of hip hop don't want to hear that on artists albums. The thing I like most about this album is the unique style of beats I heard this album before it was released and didn't like it that much at first but this is definitely an album you have to groove and chill with, their choice in beats really shows how original they can be and hopefully they learn and start doing that with their lyrics.

4.0 out of 5 stars 2nd major label release is alright

G. · May 24, 2005

15 months after their debut on a major label (and 5 months after their "G.I.F.I. Mixtape") Young Chris & Neef return. Not nearly as good as "Tough Luv" and slightly worse then "G.I.F.I. Mixtape" it is still pretty good. Only 12 songs and 43 minutes so it's not as long as the other 2. 1 song is horrible, 2 are almost classics, 3 are ok, the other 6 are good. Production is not as good as the debut (oddly since it's mostly the same producers) and also Neef lacks lyrically once again. Chad Hamilton does 7 songs, Swizz Beats does 2, and Boola, Bangladesh, and Kanye West all do 1. Guests rap on about half the songs and a few hooks are from otehrs. A good album for their fans to have but not their best work.#1 - 7#2 - 7.5 (f/ swizz beats)#3 - 8.5 (f/ 112)#4 - 9.5 (f/ Daz dillinger -- best one on here -- tight beat)#5 - 7#6 - 4.5 (worst one on here)#7 - 9 (f/ kanye west & john legend -- 2nd best on here -- also on their "G.I.F.I. This album is on-point. I took a chance by buying their c.d but I wasn't at all disappointed. I heard the song "Set it off" and since I didn't know anyone who would copy the c.d I bought it. It's an excellent c.d. The beats are great, the lyrics are crazy, and everything flows perfectly together. My faves are "Grown Man Part 2","Dont keep me waiting", "Same sh**, Different Day" and "Don't Stop". The c.d is just outcold. And I was never a fan of theirs until this c.d.

3.0 out of 5 stars Average album, not bad but not worth buying

D.Y. · June 2, 2005

The Young Gunz' "Brothers From Another" is a really average and forgettable release. There's nothing overly bad about it, but there are few tracks to begin with (only 12), and few of those are worth repeats...so it'll probably drift away in your CD collection too quickly. The production is very simple and sparse throughout, with a few "party" beats here and there. The only real exception is the track "Grown Man Pt. 2", which is produced by Kanye West and is surprisingly a really poor beat. It's horribly overproduced -- too much stuff is going on, all the sounds clash with each other, and you can't really get into the beat at all. I don't know if everyone is just brainwashed into automatically liking a Kanye song nowadays, but it doesn't work at all. The rest of the beats are decent but unspectacular, and the only other big-name producer is Swizz Beatz on "Set it Off".Lyrically, you probably know what to expect from the Young Gunz (Chris and Neef). They're not the best rappers in the world but Chris especially can spit some really solid verses with a nice flow. I'd compare him to somewhat of a less talented Jadakiss. They cover all the typical stuff, partying / street life...again, what you'd expect from a mainstream rap release in 2005. Nothing that creative or extraordinary. The standout tracks in my opinion are the lead single "Set it Off" (produced by Swizz Beatz), "Tonight", "Beef", and "What We Gotta Do". "Set it Off" is incredibly catchy, and Chris and Neef both drop awesome verses to the beat. "Tonight" is a great, west-coast style party track featuring Daz with a strong beat and hook. "Beef" and "What We Gotta Do" are both far more serious/mature tracks and give a great edge to the album.Overall the first half of "Brothers From Another" is made up of party tracks and singles, and the second half are deeper and more serious songs. Neither side is perfect but the latter works better. Aside from "Grown Man Pt. 2" none of the songs struck me as really poor, but a lot are forgettable.I bought this album because I was completely hooked on "Set it Off", but I'm a little disappointed. It's not a horrible album but it's just not really worth the $10-$15. Just find out which tracks you like and get them from a friend / online service.

5.0 out of 5 stars Young Gunnerz Strike Again

T.G.S. · June 6, 2005

After a very strong showing on their first album "Tough Luv," I was worried the Young Gunz couldn't come up with anything much better. I must say I was wrong, this is a great album. I like every song with the exception of "Dont Stop," no question this CD is a must buy. "Grown Man Part 2" and "The Way it Goes" are classics; surrounded by many other quality songs, hopefully this album sales as great as its content.
