5.0 out of 5 stars This little optic is impressive
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } I bought this optic for police work it fits in your pocket like a pen. It’s about the size of a sharpee. The optic’s power is impressive it allows me to read license plates and street numbers at a100 yards. The optic also gathers a little bit of light so it works well at dawn and dusk. It’s a great surveillance tool when you have no idea your going to be doing surveillance and the necessary kit wasn’t packed because a situation jumped off without notice. The up close magnification allows you to use this as a magnifying scope and allows me the ability for example to read firearm serial numbers with my 50+ year old eyes. For a cop working a beat this little optic is a tremendous tool!I’am totally impressed!!! Thank you Zeiss!!!!!I have a couple sets of your binoculars and they are great but the utility of this little optic and the problems it solves without taking up any room and being easy to carry is amazing!
5.0 out of 5 stars Small, Lightweight Powerhouse on the Trail.
It’s a 4 star (maybe 3 for the price) if used exclusively for long range. At long range, it’s not quite sharp to the edge. With anything there are always compromises. At near focus, it is tack sharp to the edge (I believe it’s optimized for this purpose). It really is incredible and extremely useful. What I love is that it’s a microscope at 9X power (a quarter looks like a dinner plate). It's also amazing at seeing detail far off (reading signs, looking for trail markers, seeing birds, I can even see some astronomy objects like Andromeda or M13)…the best part is the size and weight. There’s no excuse to leave it behind. It’s 2 oz and about has about the same feel in my pocket as the inhaler I had as a kid, lol! With binoculars, or a larger mono, there’s the debate of having it on me. This one leaves no room for debate so I can always pull it out if needed. Amazing for backpacking light.
3.0 out of 5 stars No dust caps
It is no match for a full size binocular, but its tiny size means I can always have it in my waist pack. The quality of the image is very good. The biggest drawback is a very narrow field of view. Another issue is a very tight eye relief - means you need to hold it very close to your eye. Which can feel uncomfortable for some - I solve the issue by holding it inside a closed fist so that I don't have the narrow object almost poking me in the eye.But the biggest disappointment is that it did not come with dust caps which is simply inexplicable considering the price.
4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to carry
Very easy to carry and works well. For the price it seems the build quality could be sturdier.
5.0 out of 5 stars I don’t leave home without it!
This is the first mono scope I’ve owned. I enjoy how small it is and how convenient it is to clip into a pocket, and it’s so lightweight I can forget I have it. When I walk my dog in the morning I will turn around if I forget it because you never know what you’ll see. Seems like it’d be perfect for going to a stadium or concert. I think I will enjoy it when visiting the archery range too.
2.0 out of 5 stars Zeiss Monocular cylinder's construction being plastic is not robust; no warranty for trauma.
I purchased the Zeiss Monocular in October 2011 from Bolo and it broke into multiple pieces at the pocket clip in August 2017 when it accidentally came out of my shirt pocket and hit the floor. To the best of my knowledge, this monocular is the only monocular of its size and suitable for daily shirt pocket use. However, the cylinder assembly is plastic. This makes it lightweight, but also not as robust as aluminum of say a Mini Maglite--which I also carry. What would be optimal I think is to package the optical elements of the Zeiss (or like) into a case like the Mini Maglite. The significant increase in robustness would easily offset the slight increase in weight.FWIW, I purchased the Zeiss monocular at Bolo for $140. It is now $200. I see that Zeiss optical components have a lifetime warranty--I will see how that goes. I finally checked on the warranty and received this response from Zeiss: "I'm sorry but the limited lifetime warranty does not cover trauma and breakage but defects in materials and workmanship." In my opinion, one should also stand behind their design--especially with a name like Zeiss and at such a price. I am adjusting my rating accordingly.
5.0 out of 5 stars Zeiss Monocular Scope
Zeiss manufacturers quality products. Weather purchasing a microscope or a pair of binoculars you cannot beat this brand. I enjoy using this monocular scope at the range to verify target hits down range. Extremely pleased with the quality and service this product has provided.
4.0 out of 5 stars Decent optics and unbelievably light weight.
If you are looking for a super light high quality monocular for say backpacking then this is a great choice. Yes, it does not have the chromatic pop and clarity of the Leica 8x20 Monovid so the color of birds will not be quite as standout. And it's not waterproof so you shouldn't pull it out in the pouring rain and you'll have to be a little careful to not let it get too wet. And the slide focus takes a little getting used to in contrast to the turning ring of the Leica. But then it weighs half as much, 2 ounces versus 4, and the optics are superb. 2 ounces. That's light compared to 4 ounces for the Leica Monovid, 8 oz for the Leica 8x20 binoculars, 14 ounces for the typical 8x20 and a pound or two for a pair of 8x40's. And 6 power is the sweet spot for stability versus magnification in a monocular. And it's easier to see the image since 6x18 gives you a 3 mm exit pupil rather than 8x20 giving you 2.5mm. So is it the best out there? No. But is it a no brainer to toss in the pack for the occasional birding? You bet! Lightest high quality optics I've found.
A quality compact monocular
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } The Zeiss Conquest monocular is the only quality product out there that can conveniently fit in a small space for immediate use when needed, a shirt pocket or small purse will do. My wife finds that it fits into her purse without taking too much room. The 5 x magnification may seem underwhelming but is more than sufficient for spotting detail that one might not have noticed otherwise....or not at all because your other monocular was too bulky to bring with you. I highly recommend.
Great monocular, no telescopic mount though.
5* for the quality of the monocular.1* for Bolo's description of the item. It does not have a telescope mount / Altazimuth Mount.
