It's step up and really gives a fine finish polish.I've used this to follow up on small parts, and feed ramps. Works great, and a bar like this really lasts. The media could not be loaded. I used the green extra fine compound to sharpen my knives on a strop. It does a good job of helping to hone the blade to a fine razor sharp edge. This is a huge bar of buffing compound and it will last you a lifetime. Why did I buy it being that it was so large? The smaller bars were the same price or they had expensive shipping charges that made them cost as much or more. This bar is so big that 1/8th of it would last you for a couple of years.The bar is hard like a crayon and you rub it on the strop and work it into the strop as best you can. I have even seen video of people using a smooth poster board with buffing compound and using it to strop hone a knife blade. The buffing compound is what does the work.The package arrived in about 3 days so the delivery was fast. It works well and it is priced fairly so I rated it at 5 stars.

I have tried a couple different brands of this stuff, and they have all worked about the same for me. I bought it for use with a strop, for straight razor shaving, but have also tried it on things like kitchen knives, to buff them out a bit. It works good, and i have not really seen any noticeable difference between this one, and other brands. If I had one complaint, it would be this. It is made in china, and no where on the page could I find any info about where it was made. I found this out after purchasing it. For purposes of use, yes it does what it is supposed to, but if you are like me, and would like to see more work kept here, in the USA, then i would recommend spending just a little more, and get the one from the following link. It is "Enkay 140-G Stainless Steel Compound 1 lb Bar. Color- Green" which can be found here " http://www.Bolo.com/gp/product/B001Q50L7U/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_10 " and the Enkay one is made in the USA, where the woodstock brand is made in china. and they both work equally good.Basically, my biggest, and only complaint is that this is made in china, and there is no where on the page to let you know that. If they did not hide that fact, then i would have given it 5 stars, but i deducted a star due to hiding details about the product.

In truth I have never encountered "bad" polishing compound, especially if you are buying green compound as a general polishing solution. There are better choices for specialty applications, notably plastics, but this will get you by if you just need metal things polished up to either look shiny or get extra sharp. I use it to strop tools and knives to a mirror finish that splits hairs.You should reapply often for best performance because it removes metal fast and the efficiency goes down--this is true for all green compounds. But again, if you are a casual user, you can absolutely load up a strop generously and use it for several months on end. Remember you can also strop on cardboard, MDF/fiberboard, paper, wood, and more. Your knives and tools can be touched up a few times on this before you need to actually sharpen them on a stone again.

This is the standard green polishing compound but comes in a huge 1 pound block! The item arrived in perfect condition wrapped in plastic inside of a box in the standard Bolo packaging.Works as good as any green compound I have used for sharpening/polishing knife edges. It is a good product but because of what you get at a great price makes this a great deal! For what I have paid for in the past, small 1-4 ounce blocks, I now have maybe a lifetime supply of polishing compound! If I need a super high polish finish on my projects, I add a tiny bit of 14000 grit, or higher, diamond powder on a loaded strop to get a super high polished finish on my items. I highly recommend this product to anyone that needs to sharpen or polish a lot of blades, tools, or whatever.

First, this is a lot of CrOx. The bar is about 6-1/2" long, 1-3/4" wide, and 1-1/2" high (the length and width are about the average of the taper). It's like a giant crayon. What I did, with excellent results, was I sanded down the rough side of my strop with 220 grit to flatten it and remove the "leather burrs" and then "colored" it with this (again, like a crayon), but only about the bottom 1/3 or so of it. If you are a home user this will last you many years. You can also use it on canvas, linen, balsa, felt, etc. Up to you.It is also useful for touching up an edge that hasn't been honed in a while, whether or not you hone edges yourself. It won't be a permanent injunction against a razor needing to be honed but you should be able to smooth it a few times and get it honed less frequently (i.e. it will reduce tugging but don't count on much sharpening per se). Unlike stropping this will abrade the steel so don't do it every day, just when it needs it. This will reduce wear and tear on your razor as well as your waterstones (or save you money / time away from your straight if you send it to an honemeister)For the ultimate razor maintenance I recommend a daily fabric pre-stropping (canvas or linen, either will minimize corrosion with negligible if any abrasion), then leather, then occasional CrOx when it's needed, and finally an honing when the CrOx buffing no longer brings it up to an acceptable level. This regiment will keep your straight as sharp as possible while avoiding unnecessary removal of steel. And of course keep a coating of oil on the steel before storage!

It did take a while to get here (Tasmania), but so does everything. Works fine and does the job for a good price for the quantity. One word review of transaction: Honest.

This compound is doing a increadible good job. After sharpening my knives with a 8000 grit stone, I did a paper cut test, than I did no more than 6 leather strop using this compound and the paper cut test was twice better. It give me a very shining edge! very good product!
I added this compound to another strop I made and my first time using it put a wicked sharp edge SO much better than my old rubbing compound
Wow what a difference this made. I was trying to get my knives razor sharp and was having a hard time doing it using a strop and some turtle wax rubbing compound. I added this compound to another strop I made and my first time using it put a wicked sharp edge SO much better than my old rubbing compound. All this time I thought it was my skill level that needed to get better, and much to my surprise, that wasn;t the case, this stuff really upped my sharpening skills. When they say use the right tool for the job, they arn't kidding and THIS WAS the right choice for what I was doing.
