For Those About To Rock We Salute You

Description:

2003 reissue on 180-gram vinyl LP. Collaborating for the third and final time with famed musical producer Mutt Lange, AC/DC churned out another mega hit with the album's 1981 title track "For Those About to Rock, We Salute You." A nod to gladitorial times in ancient Rome, it is also the perfect anthem to open a hard rock concert. The album shot all the way up to #1 in 1981, and it spun out the hit title track as well as "Let's Get It Up" and "Put the Finger on You." This was a strong showing for Brian Johnson on his second album as lead singer for the band, following up the infamous "Back in Black." This 2003 reissue comes in a gatefold sleeve. The album, itself, is remastered and pressed on quality 180-gram vinyl.

Fantastic cd. It's like I've never heard it before. If you like ACDC this should be right there in your collection next to BIB. After that they didn't do as well imo.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled by the color of the cover. It isn't blue, it's the usual gold color.

Most of you probably already know the album. If not, it's as close to MTV as the sound of AC/DC was ever going to get.Pro's:Some very good songs on board.Drums sound very heavy.Epic title track with surprise drum fills. The way the bass guitar joins-in on C.O.D. If your audio system is up to the task, Cliff Williams' bass should make your chest vibrate. The last album with Mutt Lange (thankfully).Con's: Mutt Lange did well with Back In Black, but this sounds like he's aiming the finished artical at Def Leppard fans. Highway To Hell sounded a little too polished, especially after Powerage and Let There be Rock (the latter having IMO the perfect sound for an AC/DC album), but with FTATR, it's all too much. Clearly Malcolm Young felt the same way, as they ditched him after this album.Generic gatefold picture of the band playing live. the photographer was trying to catch them looking triumphant. It's not very down and dirty like AC/DC pics should be.

5.0 out of 5 stars AC/DC Broadens Their Horizons

B.S. · July 31, 2002

Of course, following up 1980's record breaking "Back in Black" would be quite difficult, whether you make that assumption by sales or by quality. But leave it to AC/DC to carry on the true tradition of classic rock-n-rollers, with 1981's "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)." Here, the band explores all of their expected territory with epic rock anthems (the classic title track) and the predictably fashioned wine, women, and song scores ('Let's Get it Up,' 'Put the Finger on You'). But in a stunning yet well balanced manner, AC/DC brings listeners to a world on the streets, taking elements of frustration (the excellent 'Spellbound'), distrust (superbly crafted 'Night of the Long Knives') and rebellion ('Breaking the Rules'). 'COD' is classic AC/DC all the way, while the marvelous rockers 'Evil Walks' and 'Snowballed' seem to contradict the quintet's classic subject matter. Lead vocalist Brian Johnson's lyricism and bellows give the album its broad feel, while the guitar playing of Angus & Malcolm Young lead the rhythm section of Cliff Williams and Phil Rudd. Here in its remastered form, "For Those About to Rock" is one of AC/DC's peak accomplishments.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of their best albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars The cover art ain’t BLUE?!

G.J. · January 6, 2023

The ‘03 AC/DC 180-gram remasters are worthy upgrades to your OG copies (especially if they are “well loved” like mine), but the Bolo image is misleading. It’s the original Gold background art from the ‘82 release, not this odd turquoise blue one that’s shown?!
