Description:
Alex Bernier is a member of an arcane order of priests who is sent to Rome to investigate the mysterious death of the head of this order. The body may be of a Sin Eater, a renegade who offers absolution, last rites and therefore a path to heaven outside the jurisdiction of the church. Alex enlists the aid of his old comrade Father Thomas and of a troubled artist upon whom he once performed an exorcism. He soon finds himself plunged directly into the face of unimaginable evil, murder, and ultimately, a fate worse than death. The Order will find you!

Heath Ledger plays a priest of the Carolingian order (this order doesn't exist although is base on factual historical records during the Middle Ages of a dynasty that aided the papacy in keeping political power). Father Alex Bernier (heath ledger) fights against the evils outside and inside the Roman Catholic church, and he steers into the abyss, and the Abyss steers back at him when he goes after a mythical creature call the "Sin eater" . The church considers the fictional order of the Carolingian and the Sin eater both to be a heresy. A very interesting plot that precedes Dan Brown Da Vinci code(book/film) but that falls into the same genre.It's fictional and entertaining. I recommend it.

Love this movie, not just because i'm a Heath Ledger fan but I like the spiritual content. This movie at the time is not available for free on prime, so I bought it. I'd give it 5 stars if I didn't have to purchase it.

There are a lot of movies out there that play off religious themes, and it's very hard to find one with an engrossing story that isn't all about the power of the church or its corruption. This was a very well played out story that actually made me pay attention. I typically watch my movies while on a computer doing other stuff because I can't just sit idle. This had me pausing constantly to watch what was actually going on. The dark theme was very well done without being over the top horror. From the visuals to the dialogue and everything in between, I really love this movie and hope others will too.

Reading some critical reviews made me think that this movie wasn't going to be worth the watch, but they were severely misleading. I thought that this movie was very good, filled with action, mystery, and suspense. While it does have some parts that may confuse or make one feel a little lost, the plot as a whole is spectacular. Movie reviews are just one person's opinion, and in this case they did not do this movie justice. Lately every movie director is coming out with the same base plot line and characters, and because of that finding unique movies is difficult. This film is very different and compelling, which is a refreshing reprieve from some of the movies coming out lately. It was definitely worth the buy.

I had totally forgot about this movie and that Heath Ledger was in it.Once I saw it available on bluray I had to have it.Very satisfied with it and delivery!

Der Film agiert im weiten Bereich des "Mystery-Kirchen-Thrillers" à la Da Vinci Code, ist aber meiner Meinung nach nicht so gut wie dieser.Die Schauspieler sind gut (es gibt auch ein Wiedersehen mit der "mysteriösen" Rosalinda Celentano), sie können aber den Film nicht wirklich aus seiner Mittelmäßigkeit erlösen. Gut gemacht sind die Szenen in der Peterskirche im Vatikan - tolle Tricks ermöglichen die perfekte Illusion, denn im echten Dom wurde auch nicht eine Sekunde gedreht... Fazit:Trotz Heath Ledger - leider - nur drei Sterne.

Definitely Heath Ledger’s weakest movie. Heath himself isn’t bad, but the story and overall look of the film didn’t cut it. But if you’re a die hard Heath Ledger fan like me, then I say this film is still worth watching.
