5.0 out of 5 stars A Perfect Production
I bought this DVD when my son was 18 months. He has watched it over and over again until recently the DVD cracked. I then borrowed the Disney version of the Jungle Book for him from the local library. Surprisingly, he was not as interested... There is certain innocence in the movie that a little kid just loves!!! My son asked to watch this movie often. I'm buying a new copy and some other stories from this company.
3.0 out of 5 stars Okay
This CD is cute for children who are already fluent in Spanish. The story line is nice, as it is R.Kipling's classic story 'Jungle Book.' The CD will probably not make your child's list of favorite CDs, but will provide minor entertainment. There are no amazing graphics to report; nor is there anything genuinely interesting about this particular spin on the 'Jungle Book' tale. The video is a little flat; the animation is not spectacular or 'eye-beguiling' to a child. However, it is a cartoon and kids seem to find a moment for cartoons. After 10 minutes my granddaughter lost interest, which is odd for her; she loves to watch CDs. The CD is short which is good. Overall, 'El Libro de la Selva' is just 'okay' - nothing more - nothing less.
2.0 out of 5 stars Not a patch on the Disney movie
I bought this tape for my three year old thinking thatthis was the Disney version. Big mistake. The animation is not even close to the Disney standard, and the storyline lacks the polish of a Disney production. None of the little touches of comedy that children love exist in this fairly mediocre recreation of Kiplings classic. That being said, it is perhaps slightly closer to Kipling's version when compared to Disney. But then, if you are buying an animated cartoon for your child, I doubt if the focus should be on the original literary version!

4.0 out of 5 stars One of Jetlag's darker outputs; musically appealing but overall mediocre...
It simply cannot be said that Jetlag Productions is any sort of quality animation company and that it'll go down in history as one; yet, they have managed to produce a fair number of worthwhile titles. Unfortunately, it is also true that the company did not reach or even come near its peak with "Jungle Book"; when I think of the "worst of Jetlag", I immediately think of this one, even if a number of others just as mediocre, or worse, have been made. Of all the different titles from the company, not one has received half the negative attention and criticism that this particular one has. Most of that criticism came from consumers cheap enough to think they'd be getting the then-out-of-print 1967 Walt Disney animated classic for $6, so naturally, their thoughts were of little importance to me. Others pointed out the film's real flaws, such as the typical Jetlag style of mediocre, if not just bad, animation, poor acting, among other things. Once or twice someone has mentioned how this version of the story is more faithful to Rudyard Kipling's stories than the Disney version. Still, I am determined to give my own thoughts on the film.Based on Rudyard Kipling's timeless tales about the young boy raised by wolves, "Jungle Book" tells the story of Mowgli. When he is very young, Mowgli loses his mother and father to the cruel tiger Shere Khan, he escapes unharmed and wanders off into the home of a couple of wolves who'd just celebrated their pack of newborns. Lead by a motherly instinct, the female wolf takes Mowgli in and raises him as one of their own. Sadly, Shere Khan finds Mowgli and demands that he is given to him so he can eat him whole just like he did with his parents. When Mowgli's new parents refuse, Shere Khan swears revenge on the young boy and is from there on determined to destroy him. As he grows into a young man, Mowgli finds some new friends, including Bagheera the panther and Baloo the bear. Unfortunately at the same time, the other wolves feel threatened by Shere Khan's promise of vengeance and thus turn a cold shoulder upon Mowgli. Feeling betrayed, the boy leaves the jungle and enters a man village near by where he is kindly received. Mowgli has trouble adjusting to the ways of men in the village and feeling out of place, decides to return to the jungle with his old friends, and is determined to confront Shere Khan alone or with their help.I have never read the stories on which this animated adventure is based, but I can definitely say that the story is more focused and serious than the Disney version, which to me was merely an excuse for a musical comedy. It is true the quality of the animation and art in general is mostly low, but that did not bother me, especially since I found the story to be rather captivating. The acting is terribly clichéd and unrealistic, but I've come to expect that from Jetlag Productions. The strongest part of this film is, without a doubt, the selection of three songs; the first one, "The Wild Life in the Jungle" is a catchy upbeat tune that opens and ends the film; followed by "The Life I Lead", where Baloo the bear sings about his carefree life in the jungle. Finally, "Where Do I Belong?" musically states Mowgli's confusion as he feels that he simply does not belong in the man village. The score is sometimes recycled from Jetlag's earlier "Leo the Lion: King of the Jungle" (1994), but nice just the same. To wrap it all up, this is one of Jetlag Productions' darker outputs, so some parents may not find it appropriate for young children. There's a lot of talk of violence as well as a lot of violent themes. They wouldn't have bothered me at all when I was small, but we know how parents are nowadays. Overall, with some major flaws, the film is enjoyable, not Jetlag Productions' finest effort by any means, but definitely not worthy of the numerous amount of harsh criticism it has received. Recommended for fans of Mowgli's stories.
3.0 out of 5 stars Not user friendly
I had a hard time opening it. It contained too many files and I needed to go one by one to get to the right thing. I would suggest the seller just to include the movie itself, instead of files that are useless.
4.0 out of 5 stars Not the Disney version, but still enjoyable.
First of all this is NOT Walt Disney's The Jungle Book. This is a completely different version. Most of the criticism is from people that don't pay attention to the cover, the price, the amount of reviews, and the fact that next to "The Jungle Book" it says "Jetlag Productions". So most of the angry costumers just didn't pay attention when they bought this. The plot is slightly different from Disney's version, but it's closer to the actual book. The animation isn't great and the voice acting isn't the best. But the songs are cute and for a cartoon on a budget it did a decent job. If you're a closed minded adult that expects spectacular animation and famous voice actors, then stick to Disney's. But if you don't care too much about the animation or voice talent then I would recommend this product.

no good even for multi-region players in UK
We bought this because we have a multi-region player and TV. It does not play, so presumably has the Regional Coding Enhancement mentioned below, so be warned. As there is no way of knowing this before you buy it, I think that this should be specified on the product details.------------Region 1 discs are intended for use with standard DVD players in North America (Canada and the USA). In most instances they can also be played on compatible "multi-region" DVD players (also known as "chipped" or "region-free" players). They also require an NTSC-compatible television. NTSC is the standard picture format in North America, and differs from the PAL format adopted in Britain and Europe. Region 1 DVDs are usually presented in NTSC format, so you should ensure that your TV is capable of reading the NTSC signal before purchasing Region 1 DVDs.Regional Coding Enhancement (RCE)Regional Coding Enhancement (RCE) has been added by some film studios (specifically Warner and Columbia) to selected Region 1 DVDs, with the intention of preventing these discs from playing on some multi-region DVD players. We are therefore unable to guarantee that all Region 1 discs will be compatible with all multi-region players.-------------
Not what i expected.
It was not made clear before I purchased that this version is not the musical. Very disappointed. Had I not seen the musical I would have been happy with this version, there is nothing actually wrong with it.
