Good quality and great for teaching straight edges from other pieces. Appropriate for pre-K and K classrooms, with a cool design. Colors are muted but I like that it looks realistic instead of cartoonish. Good for 4+

I have always valued the quality of Melissa & Doug products. I have bought several learning toys for the kids, but this is the first time of purchasing one of their puzzles. It is a great puzzle! The pieces are thick and uniform and are a very nice weight and easily connect. The graphics/picture on this puzzle are very clear and consistent. The coloring is correct. The edges of the puzzle pieces are all neat and finished and we have enjoyed playing with this. My grandson is obsessed with tractors, earth movers, and any type of heavy equipment so this puzzle was perfect for him. This is just the right size for younger kids and once completed the puzzle was quite large 2' x 3'. There are 48 pieces to this puzzle, which is just right for kids. Even the box of this puzzle is quality and heavy duty. A lot of puzzle boxes are very flimsy cardboard and break or split at the corners, spilling the pieces all over. Not this one. Very pleased with the quality and the price of this and will continue to recommend Melissa & Doug toys to others. Always a quality product!

Puzzles are SO good for teaching children how to figure things out--without them realizing they're actually learning something. I love Melissa and Doug puzzles because the quality is thru the roof. The picture I've attached shows how my 5-year old granddaughter goes straight from one to the other and has such a sense of satisfaction.... always wants me to take a picture. Don't tell the sweet girl she's doing the 2nd one upside down! Hahah! She'll figure it out and laugh at herself. She makes sure she has the "map" to go by at first but later she'll be doing this without it and being so proud.

Got this puzzle because my 3 year old son was really getting into the wooden Melissa and Doug puzzles that have the wooden tray they sit in (not the ones where the animals are their own shapes and sit in a place only they fit in, but the ones more like actual puzzles) and he was putting it together in no time, so we decided to try this. This one is a great next step up from those and for a pretty good price for under $10. The pieces are definitely larger, but they include a good amount of detail in each one that my kid can figure out where they go pretty much by himself with minimal help the first time, and despite receiving the puzzle last night, he's already done it twice and the second time nearly all by himself. It hits that sweet spot of not too challenging as to be a turn off, but challenging and easy enough with an interesting enough picture that he'll continue to be engaged doing this one.The quality is good - a thick heavy glossy cardboard and the pieces easily fit together if they're supposed to go together, but when they aren't supposed to go together you can't force them easily like a smaller puzzle, bringing the confusion to a minimum for the young puzzler. We went with the dino one, and I chose it because dinos, but also the color scheme was differentiated enough that it is mostly obvious which pieces go to which dinos, although it's still a little challenging as there are a variety of dinos and colors. I actually looked through a lot of dino puzzles and found this to be one of the better ones out there concerning picture and price.

Very nice puzzle, but it did provide a bit of a challenge for my seven-year-old who’s good at puzzles. Still worth it and I would recommend it.

Lovely picture, great quality
I have bought several of these Doug and Melissa puzzles and they are the perfect size and difficulty level for my 3 year old grandson and yet interesting enough to motivate the 5 year old. The pieces are sufficiently durable and a good large size for little hands. I highly recommend any of them. This one has a particularly nice picture with lots of different animals to identify. I think it mixes up continents, but who cares.
