I’m a hard rock/metal guy at heart…but have pretty broad musical tastes, including a strong interest in blues, jazz, and various other genres. Probably 10% of my music collection is devoted to low key, very chilled out, relaxation music of various sorts. Some is jazz ballad stuff, after hours/smoky blues, atmospheric Americana. THIS, however, is something a bit different…and a real treat. It not only relaxes, it takes you back in time to a much simpler era. If you’re a fan of old movies, you know what I’m talking about. There’s something about being transported like this that I find calming and mind clearing in the extreme. Real life in 2022 is, sadly, anything but. Enjoy!

The music on this CD is not what I expected but that’s only because I didn’t research the songs. They seem to have a 1930-1940 flavor. That doesn’t mean I won’t listen to them though. As far as sound quality, they sound great. The higher quality of the music along with extremely quick delivery means this product deserves 5 stars.

Really disappointed in this CD. Technically, the sound is great. But, the choice of cuts on this CD don't really meet the CD title of "Sophisticated Jazz Classics" for me. On many of the cuts, the soloists slide from note to note, rather than hitting the notes cleanly. This creates a very whiny sound which makes me wince when I hear it. Out of the 20 cuts on this CD, only 6-7 really match the CD title. The others just hurt my ears. It's going back.

This is a well-remastered selection of jazz pieces by such artists as Benny Carter, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington and Coleman Hawkins. The music is very relaxing, and provides a good background for reading, working on hobbies, enjoying a good conversation or a glass of wine. I enjoy these Past Perfect CDs and have quite a few of them.
Old recordings you can really enjoy.
As ever this series of Past Perfect CDs rarely dissapoints and this one is again excellent. Concentrating on the mid 30s, listening to the music is an experience not to be missed and you can forget when the recordings were made. One track has sections of brushed snares where you are concious of brief moments of what sounds like increased track noise, not surprising since the sounds are very similar, but otherwise you can relax to a far greater range of tones from fuller bases through to clear trebles without being consious of the age of the recording.The track listing and the other reviews tell you about the quality of the music, so I won't repeat it again.I do find that these recordings sound best played through a speaker system rather than listening through a pair of reference headphones as while the processing of these tracks is first class, you will be more concious of any remaining noise and faults through the headphones - same as some modern recordings really!
