This is for the -original- Capitol Records release. Instead of 20 tracks, there are 15 on this Green Hill re-release. The cover art is also from the -original- release.Removed:6. Christmas in My Hometown - Sonny James8. Silver Bells - Jimmy Wakely, Margaret Whiting10. You're the Angel on My Christmas Tree - Faron Young13. Lonely Christmas - Ferlin Husky15. If Santa Claus Could Bring You Back to Me - Jimmy WakelyAs described, the remaining songs are more "upbeat" but the CD total running time is only 35 minutes. For Christmas music collectors, these 15 Capitol songs (1942-1967) are not easy to find on CD.
5.0 out of 5 stars Christmas on the Range
A friend told me about this "old timers" christmas album. Could not find it anywhere except at Bolo. Where do you find "Oldy Moldy" western Christmas songs like these all on one disc? Jimmy Wakely, Hank Thompson, Tex Ritter, Sonny James, Tennessee Ernie Ford, etc. Twenty songs at a great price. Actually, there are 21...the last song by Hank Thompson wishes us a Merry Christmas. A nice finale to 20 great songs you ain't gonna hear no more on today's radio or TV.
5.0 out of 5 stars FAVE album
This is our current favorite Christmas album, though I liked the old cover art better. It's nostalgic, kitschy, and fun and harks back to the cowboy culture of the 1950s. I have some great photos of my mother in her cowgirl duds from those days, and this music brings back those memories.I ordered this copy for my 17 year old daughter who is leaving for college next year, so she has one to take with her, since she's not getting mine!
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album
If you like the sound of the "lonesome trail" and campfire music and Roy Rogers you will enjoy this album.
5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it--oldies but goodies
In this age of most Christmas albums all having the same songs over and over again, it was a nice change of pace to hear some different songs. Not only that, they were upbeat and not negative. Many of the newer songs out there are making fun of Santa or casting him in a negative light, but not on this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Original 1995 Capitol Nashville Release
There are two compilations with the title Christmas On The Range. The first, and the one covered here, is a 1995 edition from Capitol Nashville with the full title "Christmas On The Range - Cowboy Classics From Capitol Records" containing these 21 sides recorded at Capitol between 1945 and 1967 (I've added in year and label details for each in the event you're interested):1. It's Christmas - Jimmy Wakely & Orchestra - Capitol F2644 - 1953; 2. Santa Claus Is Coming To Town - Hank Thompson & His Brazos Valley Boys (from his 1964 LP Capitol T/ST-2154 "It's Christmas Time With Hank Thompson"; 3. Blue Christmas - Bob Atcher & The Dinning Sisters - Capitol F1258 - 1952; 4. I'm Gonna Tell Santa Claus On You - Faron Young - Capitol 2629 - 1953; 5. Christmas Carols By The Old Corral - Tex Ritter - Capitol 223 - # 2 Country Dec 1945; 6. Christmas In My Hometown - Sonny James - Capitol F2958 - 1954; 7. A Rootin' Tootin Santa Claus - Tennessee Ernie Ford - Capitol F1330 - 1951; 8. Silver Bells - Margaret Whiting & Jimmy Wakely with Orchestra - Capitol F1255 - 1950; 9. Here Comes Santa Claus (Right Down Santa Claus Lane) - Cliffie Stone & His Orchestra - Capitol 15205 - 1948; 10. You're The Angel On My Christmas Tree - Faron Young - flip of track 4; 11. The Winter Song - Tex Williams - Capitol 57-40253 - 1949; 12. Old Tex Kringle - Tex Ritter - Capitol F2957 - 1954; 13. Lonely Christmas - Ferlin Husky - from his 1967 LP Capitol T/ST-2793 "Christmas All Year Long"; 14. A Pocketful Of Mistletoe - Sonny James - from his 1966 LP Capitol T/ST-2589 "My Christmas Dream"; 15. If Santa Claus Could Bring You Back To Me - Jimmy Wakely & Orchestra - Capitol 57-90040 - 1949; 16. Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer - Hank Thompson & His Brazos Valley Boys (same as track 2; 17. I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus - Molly Bee - Capitol F2285 - # 19 Pop Dec 1952 with the Van Alexander Orchestra; 18. White Christmas - Wesley Tuttle - Capitol 15206 - 1948; 19. Christmas Dinner - Tennessee Ernie Ford - flip of track 7; 20. Jingle Bells - Roy Rogers - Capitol 2022 - 1967; 21. We Wish You A Merry Christmas - Hank Thompson & His Brazos Valley Boys (a 14 second finale from the same album as track 2).Of those released as singles, just two made any national charts (as indicated above) but that doesn't take anything away from this great compendium of just some of the Christmas classics interpreted by various Capitol Country recording stars. Indulging myself in some wishful thinking, it's too bad they hadn't found room for Sonny James' Barefoot Santa Claus which, with the backing of a children's chorus, charted twice on the Billboard Christmas charts on Capitol 5733 - # 9 in 1966 and # 12 in 1968.In October 2009, Green Hill released their Christmas On The Range volume with a different cover depicting a cowboy astride his horse out on the range and containing only the 15 sides shown in the Comments below. The problem is, Bolo seems to have lumped the two together so that, when you attempt to review the Green Hill volume it goes directly into the Capitol Nashville listing.
