About the Author

The spotlight on Rumiko Takahashi’s career began in 1978 when she won an honorable mention in Shogakukan’s prestigious New Comic Artist Contest for Those Selfish Aliens. Later that same year, her boy-meets-alien comedy series, Urusei Yatsura, was serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday. This phenomenally successful manga series was adapted into anime format and spawned a TV series and half a dozen theatrical-release movies, all incredibly popular in their own right. Takahashi followed up the success of her debut series with one blockbuster hit after another—Maison Ikkoku ran from 1980 to 1987, Ranma 1/2 from 1987 to 1996, and Inuyasha from 1996 to 2008. Other notable works include Mermaid Saga, Rumic Theater, and One-Pound Gospel.

Takahashi was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Awards Hall of Fame in 2018. In 2019, she won the Grand Prix at FIDB Angoulême. She won the prestigious Shogakukan Manga Award twice in her career, once for
Urusei Yatsura in 1981 and the second time forInuyasha in 2002. A majority of the Takahashi canon has been adapted into other media such as anime, live-action TV series, and film. Takahashi’s manga, as well as the other formats her work has been adapted into, have continued to delight generations of fans around the world. Distinguished by her wonderfully endearing characters, Takahashi’s work adeptly incorporates a wide variety of elements such as comedy, romance, fantasy, and martial arts. While her series are difficult to pin down into one simple genre, the signature style she has created has come to be known as the "Rumic World." Rumiko Takahashi is an artist who truly represents the very best from the world of manga.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing. Expect nothing less from Takahashi-san.

Beautifully drawn. Emotionally wrecking. This volume concludes another masterpiece from one of the greatest mangaka of all time. Side note i can't get over how similar Natsuhime looks like Rin from Inuyasha. (But only looks not personality)

4.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Collector's Edition

Thank you to NetGalley, VIZ Media, and Rumiko Takahashi for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review. While volume one sets up what mermaids are and how mermaid flesh can make someone immorta--if they don't die--volume two focuses on instances of mermaid flesh being used for ill intent. Mana and Yuta have both eaten the flesh of a mermaid and have been around for quite some time. Knowing there's no way to reverse it, Mana and Yua travel around and put a stop to those who seem to be using mermaid flesh in negative ways. For those of you who think mermaids are these beautiful half-fish women, think again. They are monstrous beings and eating the flesh of one may turn a human into a grotesque monster in of itself. This is a fantastic collector's edition put together by VIZ media. The cover selection and binding on their collector's editions are always worth having for any manga collector. Fans of Rumiko Takahashi's work will enjoy the nostalgia of this older edition, while new fans will find interest just as well.

The manga came in great condition. This edition is so pretty! It has several colored pages and the thickness of the paper is perfect. The only thing I don't like is that the story is so short, I finished reading it too soon... 🤭

Excellent two book release.
