Description:

Therapist Rachel Karem is accustomed to helping emotionally wounded individuals navigate the murky waters of dealing with complicated family dynamics, relationship issues, and life transitions. When individual therapy hits a brick wall for five successful professionals, she persuades them to engage in a ten-week group therapy program. But working through these sessions with her clients reveals Rachel's own brokenness.
Widowed, childless, and estranged from her family, Rachel wonders if she will ever have a second chance at love. She is amazed when her own therapist advocates for her to "get back in the game." To her surprise, Rachel enrolls in dance classes where she learns the Tango. Romantic, passionate, intense, sensual, dramatic, the Tango embodies everything that is missing in Rachel's life. As she grows more confident in her dance steps, her life becomes more entwined with her handsome dance partner, Michael. But past betrayals haunt Rachel's emotions, and current rivals for Michael's affections feed past rejections.
Even as her clients in the therapy group learn to support each other in their quest for personal wholeness, Rachel yearns for a deeper connection within herself to propel her into the next stage of her life. But will it be with or without Michael?

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read

T. · February 16, 2025

The author skillfully weaves together the struggle and stories of the narrator who is herself a therapist and her clients. Together they embark on a journey of healing. It is interesting for the reader to hear both points of view and see both sides of the therapy process. I love how the members of the therapy group root for each other and how the therapist is so warmly encouraging to her clients. The author clearly shows how everyone struggles regardless of how confident or “together” they appear on the surface. People often feel alone in their struggle, but the healing process begins by opening up to others as these six brave characters do.

5.0 out of 5 stars A deeply satisfying read.

What could be more satisfying than a page-turner novel with a relatable hero who overcomes enormous obstacles? Well, this book has six! Darlene Corbett masterfully weaves together the intimate stories of 6 people struggling to resolve heart-breaking issues arising from different emotional (and physical) traumas. Who will succeed, and who will not be able to get on with living their life to its fullest?A testament to the compassion and resilience of the human spirit, Visible is not about suffering in silence and just getting by. It is a refreshing tale about healing soul wounds and learning to thrive in a broken world - with the love and support of a few authentic friends facing challenges of their own.Spiritually uplifting, with many powerful life lessons, be sure to pack this book in your summer vacation bag. Better yet, read it now and be inspired to start settling your own unresolved issues (we all have them!) right away. You can thank me later!

This is a beautiful story of resilience. Drawn in by the imagery, then swept into the personalities of the characters, I found myself relating, sympathizing, and hoping for each one of them. The therapist, Rachel Karem, is likable from page one and is challenged by her own hurts. Can she step out, try something new, like a dance class? This little Tango leads to a crescendo of a story. If you have things to overcome in your life you will emphasize with these characters and cheer them on. You might even feel like challenging yourself to face your fears head on. Ms. Corbett has written a novel that inspires and gives one hope to overcome obstacles in life. As the therapist, Rachel declares in the book, “Human relationships are complicated.” This story makes you want to make an effort and embrace those in your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars A memorable story about the power of relationships and hope of second chances

m. · June 15, 2024

This is a unique and moving story that beautifully weaves the struggles of five members of group therapy with the struggles of the therapist. The book demostrates the humanity and universality of our flaws, the impact of trauma and the strength of the human spirit. Presenting the therapist's process is brilliant and shines a light on therapists not being all knowing and the ways in which therapy is a two way street. The book engages the reader from the very first line and that continues all through the book until the very last line. Despite the painful narratives of the characters, this is a feel good book that makes you truly believe in the possibilty of second chances, the healing powers we carry within ourselves and the healing power of relationships. Beautifully crafted and a story I will not forget.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unlocking painful secrets leads to a fuller life.

A.R. · June 10, 2024

Darlene Corbett's first book, "Stop Depriving the World of You," is a personal guide to getting unstuck. Her latest work, the novel, "Visible," portrays a group of five appealing but troubled people who come together in therapy to unlock painful secrets that release them to a fuller, more heartfelt life. Learning to trust themselves and one another, they are unaware that their beloved therapist, Rachel, faces a parallel challenge in her own life. "Visible" is the unfolding saga of tender, vulnerable and caring seekers in an inspiring story of hope and grace. Written with style and compassion, this debut novel is a must-read.

This is a story about a therapist and five of her clients. Right off the bat we get to meet them as they meet one another for the first time in a group therapy session that Rachel, the therapist, wants to try to further help each one of them. We get viewpoints from all six, starting with their first awkward moments, their journey together, and to the point where they are no longer strangers.Rachel is a successful therapist, and she acknowledges that she also needs some help with dealing with family drama. Not only are her patients helped on this journey but so is she as she begins to step out of her comfort zone and possibly meets a love match. Her point on this journey, which comes out early in the book and what I found somewhat powerful, was that she wanted them and herself to become visible. This is their journey.I felt the author did a good job of showing how therapy can help someone. Just talking to a person who is outside of the situation can bring a new perspective for the hurting individual. There are some difficult topics discussed; however, they are handled with care and grace.I was provided a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review, and all views and opinions are my own.

This is a charming story about a group therapy crowd finding hope and moving on after deep psychological trauma. Each character was portrayed truly and their situations give insights of what it’s really like to try again. I was surprised and pleased by the multiple love stories. The psychological concerns were treated authentically and the Godly references were not overbearing. A heartwarming read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A compelling interweaving of characters

B. · May 24, 2024

This beautifully written story tackles the challenge of interweaving several characters with a variety of personalities and life issues...and tackles it successfully. At the center is Rachel, the therapist, a deeply sensitive yet wounded woman who hardly dares hope for herself, even as she valiantly helps her clients achieve breakthroughs. By the end of the book, you'll feel like you know (and cheer for) all of the characters, including Rachel. Very inspiring!
