The media could not be loaded. I got A Spot of Emotion to help my three-year-old identify and express her feelings during a time of major life change—namely, divorce and a coparenting situation that’s not always emotionally smooth. This book has been such a meaningful addition to our emotional toolkit. The story is engaging, and pairing it with the emoji emotion dolls really helps her connect facial cues like eyebrows, eyes, and smiles to how she’s feeling.When we first opened the book, I asked her to point to the emotion she felt—and she pointed to the pink “Loved” spot. That moment made both me and my mom tear up. From there, we used the emoji dolls to act out emotions. While the dolls are cute and helpful, they don’t quite match the clarity of the book’s illustrations—sometimes their faces pinch a bit and distort expressions—but overall, they’re still a great tactile tool for practicing emotional recognition.At her neurodevelopmental stage, being able to name emotions and connect them to physical expressions is essential, and this kit supports that beautifully. The first part of the video was missing, but honestly, the book stands strong on its own. I absolutely recommend this for toddlers or preschoolers, especially during transitions or family changes. She’s really coming along, and I’m proud of how she’s learning to talk about her feelings—this book is a big part of that.

My kids and I love this book, we love all of the books that we have read so far from this author. This one is great, it’s so colorful and it helps kids, or really anyone learn more about feelings, emotions and facial expressions. It lets them know that everyone has these feelings, sometimes it’s hard to explain but they’re not alone. It explains feelings that maybe they don’t understand in a fun way. Read this book and you too can become an “emotion detective”, lol so cute. This is a perfect addition to our homeschool book collection.

I love the tools, understanding, and education that comes with this book. The book offers early enlightenment into a comprehension of what we feel and perhaps better explains why we might feel it—a vastly positive enrichment for any child's growth. The feelings chart in the book can be used as guidance to describe their emotion, and a visual exercise in front of a mirror to spot facial expression. The whole concept is a smart way for a child to identify their feelings, so that they might, in time, be able to sense how others are feeling. Learning to associate feelings is one of the best things we can teach our kids. I recommend this book to all children as young as possible.

My daughter has ODD and has a hard time understanding the symptoms. We started with anxiety. This book gives a great depiction of anxiety and what it could feel like. The illustrations were awesome. I plan on getting the other emotion books for her. Then I plan on using them in my mental health job.

My kids love the “Spot” books! We haven’t read them all yet but definitely want to. This Emotions books brings together all the other Spot books and shows children how to identify what they are feeling. It doesn’t go into how to manage those feelings, as each of those is broken out into another book. This book focuses on ways to read emotions in yourself and others. These books are simple and yet so powerful in teaching kids emotional intelligence.

I love the little spot books and this one is my favorite one yet! I can't wait to use it with my students, right alongside my SEL curriculum, to help SHOW them how to figure out their own feelings and recognize them in their friends as well. Fantastic book! Great for kids at home and for counselors, like me, to demonstrate what we teach! Love, love, love!

It's colourful, simple, to the point, and useful in beginning the conversation with young children about their emotions. My little guy likes to use the chart in the middle to pick out which emotion he's feeling in that moment. It actually had enough value to him that it can sometimes be used even in the midst of an argument! 😳
Another health helpful read
We’ve really enjoyed reading through the spot series. We weren’t as big a fan of this ones, we found the emotion cues didn’t quite work for us, but a good read nonetheless.
