This workbook is extremely helpful for preparing kids for the NNAT. Our goal was to familiarize our son with the structure of the test and this certainly did that. We also liked the reasoning with the answers in the back. However, I did take a star off because I noticed at least once of the answers in the back was obviously wrong (the reasoning was right, but the letter answer was wrong). Downloading the workbook in color helped with the second practice test.

I am writing this review as an employee of a test preparation company (for 17 years). If you have a second grader and you plan to apply or simply want to determine if they are compatible with advanced placement or gifted programs, then this book can be a very useful resource. Not only does it contain two full-length NNAT for the second grade level, but it guides you through the basics of the test. You can read what purpose the test serves, how it is laid out, and what type of questions it poses to students. On top of that, it provides specific guidance to parents who want to help their child work through the practice questions before tackling the real test. You can find questions to ask your child; these questions will lead them through the thought process required to navigate the test. Finally, there are answers and explanations at the end of the book so that you can review the test results when a child has completed it. The print version of the book is in black/white and there is a link provided enabling you to download full color versions.One final note: use this book even if you do not plan to have your child take the NNAT. One of the greatest challenges I see when working with my own (high school level) students is their inability to think critically. This book can be a great introduction to helping your child seek out solutions by reasoning and using process of elimination. Helping a child to develop those skills alone makes this book a very valuable resource. The "picture" nature of the test questions will enable you to present this as more of a leisure activity.

This workbook is great for NNAT test preparation. I certainly recommend this workbook for 2nd-grade Gifted and Talented students preparing for the NNAT exam. This workbook contains 2 full-length practice tests.As a parent, I appreciate the descriptive explanations and tips that this workbook provides. It's great for parents who want to help assist and guide their children through the workbook. Although this workbook is good, unfortunately, it is not enough. We decided to also use a website called Beestar. Which offers several programs including a gifted and talented program that provides questions very similar to the real test. The program has been tremendously helpful in preparing my child for the test. I recommend using both solid workbooks like this one along with the website to prepare your GT child.

Most importantly based on some of the negative reviews I read about color tests, they are available online so dont fret about that. Although there are a couple of things I dont like about these tests which are in my opinion causes for docking 2 stars1)If you are taking a paper version of the color tests the pictures are 2 small. Even in the book the pictures are 2 small. for 7 year olds to do a 48 question test in 30 minutes with pictures that lack clarity is asking a bit too much2)Some of the answers are plain wrong. there are pattern completion questions which the patters way bigger than the main picture and answers are flat out wrong. They confused my son and took valuable time away from completing the test on time.All in all the questions seem to be of good quality though and it was a good learning experience for him doing these test. I would not buy the 3rd grade book.

This book can be used for English language learners so it is versatile and does not require that the individual can read as the tests are mostly visual. The book gives a very well rounded introduction and suggestions for giving the test. There are also answer explanations in the back of the book to explain each test item. This is very useful for parents or teachers preparing students to take the NNAT-C.
