5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely practical and a fast read

C.B. · June 22, 2019

This book was incredibly helpful. I teach middle school, and only bought it because it was an Bolo recommendation. We have been transitioning from traditional discipline to a system that emphasizes rebuilding the relationship after misbehavior. This book has nine chapters, each of which details extremely practical things you can actually do right away. While the scenarios are very specific, they also are ones that any teacher would recognize. I liked the book so much, l lent it to our school counselor who then passed it on to our vice principal. We all think it should be required reading for everyone in our school.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must read!

R.H. · June 9, 2020

Absolutely MUST read this book if you are an educator or administrator. Unlike so many other educational books, this one actually goes beyond theory and provides concrete application of strategies. You’re not left trying to figure out how to apply the theories in your classroom. The book is well organized, making it helpful for note-taking. I don’t care if you’ve been teaching for decades or you’re a brand new teacher, READ THIS BOOK. I am excited to implement these strategies when I return back to my classroom in the Fall.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just What I Was Looking For!

A.C. · March 17, 2019

I feel that we need to do something different with today's students, and this book helps educators do just that! Too many educators use a punative system that doesn't cause any real change in students. This book not only gives the philosophy behind the 'why' we need to do things differently, but also gives the 'how' in understandable steps. This is a great read for teachers as it primarily focuses on relationships with students in the day-to-day setting. I highly recommend this to anyone that works with kids in any way...heck, even parents can use this for their children!

4.0 out of 5 stars Hacking behavior issues with restorative justice

T.L.L. · February 13, 2020

Hacking School Discipline is not only a good read, it's clear, it's well written, and it is immediately of use in the classroom. Too many education books are just about theory. Hacking School Discipline not only says what to do, but also how to do it. In an age when traditional means of discipline clearly don't work, restorative justice is the way to go and this handbook of "how to's" will help you do it. Highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended by a verified Educator

J.R. · February 12, 2020

I am a school Principal, and this book is an Easy read which is critical for educators who have to read all day and they don't want anything that is not: 1) engaging, 2) easy to read, 3) entertaining, 4) has graphics and artifacts to enhance comprehension and 5) not redundant (they haven't had a PD on this before...) . My staff is doing a book study on this now and I only bought a copy for each of them as a Christmas present! I was thrilled they wanted to implement the restorative practices immediately! Can I get a discount on a bulk purchase?

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Read

5.0 out of 5 stars a MUST READ for all educators

R.R. · November 7, 2019

A MUST read for anyone working in schools. Easy to implement "hacks" as well as more detailed full implementation strategies. If you are looking for ways to change up how your school or classroom does "discipline" check out this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Don’t pretend you have all the answers

B. · February 20, 2021

Although this book has good advice, I take question at the book’s tone. The authors seem to think that they have discovered the perfect form of discipline and that anything other than their method is outdated, wrong, or even damaging. I personally do not believe that any one discipline solution works for every school, teacher, and student, so a little humility on the part of the authors would have been appreciated. However, if this is not something that bothers you, you can get a lot out of this book.

Excellent resource.

D.M. · July 30, 2019

An excellent read for all teachers, very valuable advice on implementing restorative practice.

Worth reading!

A.C. · March 7, 2020

When you read the authors’ proposals you think, how is it possible I hadn’t thought about this before! Great reading.

Super practical!

N. · September 16, 2020

This book is easy to read with very practical applications that a teacher can put in place immediately and the school can implement and embed long-term. The authors have done a great job at writing a book for all educators displaying their experience in real schools.

Good book
