Poor Students, Rich Teaching: Seven High-Impact Mindsets for Students From Poverty (Using Mindsets in the Classroom to Overcome Student Poverty and Adversity)

Description:

There are three critical characteristics to know about poverty and education:

  1. The devastating effects of poverty are accelerating.
  2. Poverty affects both you and your students in multiple adverse ways.
  3. You have the power to reverse the academic impact poverty has on your students, and this comprehensive resource will show you how.

In this revised and updated edition, two of Eric Jensen's top-selling books (Poor Students, Rich Teaching and Poor Students, Richer Teaching) have been merged into one must-read resource on poverty and education. "Eric Jensen's books are a ringing advocacy for schools' most challenging students: the children of poverty. In this revised edition of Poor Students, Rich Teaching, he weaves together the biological and neurological foundations of learning with the gritty, day-to-day demands of classroom teaching. He is a genius; even better, he is our genius."

--Robert D. Barr, coauthor, Building a Culture of Hope; dean emeritus, Boise State University, Idaho

"Poor Students, Rich Teaching is the perfect balance of research and practical application. The universal strategies Eric provides are suitable for all students but are particularly beneficial for students impacted by poverty."

--Deborah Stevens, director of instructional advocacy, Delaware State Education Association

Keep your pencil or highlighter handy! This book is full of useful information and actionable ideas to help reach your students. This book thoroughly explains how poverty can affect all aspects of students' lives and the ways they learn. This book would be useful to any teacher who wants to engage with their students in a more meaningful way, whether or not the students come from poverty.

Eric Jensen makes it so simple. Of course it is challenging to meet the needs of each students, but Eric Jensen has an easy-to-understand style. It is like he is here explaining the strategies. I bought the book a few months ago, but I find myself referring to it. If you have Title 1 students, this is a great book. The bonus is that these strategies will work for many students.Dr. Jim Ewing (Author of "Math for ELLs. As Easy as Uno, Dos, Tres."EwingLearning.com
