"The Complete Acid Reflux Diet Plan is a step-by-step plan to break the vicious cycle of acid-suppressing medications and relieve your reflux symptoms once and for all. Nour expertly walks readers through the physiology and root causes of reflux and why common medical interventions provide only short-term relief but long-term health consequences. It offers a sane and balanced diet plan that ultimately gets you back to eating all of the foods you love. I recommend this book to anyone who's been told to take antacid medications and intuitively knows there must be a better way."―Ayla Barmmer, MS, RDN, owner of Boston Functional Nutrition

5.0 out of 5 stars This plan really works!
This is fantastic! Been following this diet plan as best as possible and it works!!! Adapting to a new way of eating takes time but my symptoms subsided within the first 3 days. Very comprehensive book. Many of the recipes are flavorful but make sure you stock up on the recommended seasonings before you start this plan.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great cookbook for acid reflux!
Wow! When I was diagnosed with chronic acid reflux, I knew that I needed to change how I was eating. I am so happy that I bought The Complete Acid Reflux Diet Plan. The recipes are simple. When you don’t feel well and you have a family, you want easy recipes that you can make. I have made many recipes in this book. I really like most of them. The easy turkey burgers are amazing! I had never used fish sauce before and it makes these turkey burgers. I also like the maple-ginger oatmeal, French toast, banana pancakes, sweet potato and corn stew, miso-glazed scallops, baked chicken tenders, oven-fried chicken, and turkey meatloaf muffins. Another wow is the peanut butter and banana spread with ginger. I put mine on toast. Nour Zibdeh gives really good information on acid reflux along with these wonderful recipes. I enjoy making these recipes and also that I am making good food for me to eat with my acid reflux. Thank you Nour!
4.0 out of 5 stars Unfortunately, This Works:)
I've had a PH impedance study and an esophageal manometry done so there's no more mystery or fooling myself, I am an "acid reflux machine" as my G.I. doctor told me. Naturally, he had little dietary advice (except take Zantac after eating pizza... thanks), and he gave me a lifetime prescription to pantoprazole (a proton pump inhibitor, or "P.P.I." like Prilosec). I couldn't tolerate the side effects and the early research on these drugs is not to be taken lightly - unless your GERD is life threatening and it's a "risk/reward" equation - i.e. your endoscopy procedure shows a risk of esophageal cancer. Luckily, my endoscopy was clear so I stopped the pantoprazole and bought this book.Nour Zibdeh takes no prisoners with this diet so you better get your big boy (or big girl) pants on and be prepared to go cold turkey on alcohol, sugar, chocolate, caffeine, gluten, and of course citrus and tomatoes. I couldn't sleep more than a few hours in a row so I was desperate and willing. This is NOT the old fashioned diet of simply avoiding high acid foods. And it's more extensive than the Fast Track Diet (which is worth trying since you can drink on that one!). It's much more than that: combining new theories of avoiding fermentable foods and gluten (FODMAPS) with the more traditional approach of eliminating things like wine & chocolatre and other things that make life after 50 worth living...The writing is clear, to the point and efficient. I was is no mood to read some 500 page diatribe. The color coding is appreciated as well. My only criticism is the recipes which seem to be designed for people that don't cook (which is most people these days so I'm the odd man out here). I could use a bit more complexity and less sweet and more salt. But there is a chart of what to eliminate and what to eat at every stage so you can improvise. Very easy to reference.I want to schedule an appointment with my G.I. Doc and give him this book and tell him he's fired! Thank you Nour.
5.0 out of 5 stars A Solid Plan for addressing Acid Reflux
This book offers insight into a variety of root causes for acid reflux, while explaining in simple terms what acid reflux is and its effects. The author provides a practical plan that includes strategies for making the plan work, simple and tasty recipes, and menus with references for each recipe included. Anyone with acid reflux or GERD would benefit from reading and implementing this plan. This book is well written and offers a starting point for anyone wanting to take the DIY approach before consulting a medical doctor. And speaking of consulting a doctor...While the author offers a plan of action for those suffering with acid reflux, she gives solid guidance to the reader on when to seek medical evaluation, as well as how to track your symptoms to assist your physician with diagnosis. This book delivers on it's promise. It is a complete and well laid out plan for acid reflux.
3.0 out of 5 stars Recipes dont seem tested and information contradictory
The info seems straight forward until you get to the recipes. Something could be labelled as "Heal" but has sugar which is explicitly in the "Eliminate" column. This happens repeatedly. Also the portions do seem wild sometimes or the amounts in a recipe are too much or too little. This had such rave reviews and don't get me wrong, it's a great starter, but the contradictions just add stress.
5.0 out of 5 stars If you are new with GERD and don’t know where to start, get this book.
I didn’t know where to start with GERD as far as food choices as I was recently diagnosed. This book has been really helpful to get me started. Gives information related to GERD, gives you 3 day stop plan which means the ingredients you will use are good for your digestion and then follows with 4 weeks heal plan and after that give you 4 weeks to reintroduce some ingredients back in the recipes. I had to eliminate all my favorites like tomatoes, onion, garlic, ... but I have been introduced to a few new herbs which I didn’t have any problem with those. From health perspective, I feel the difference, I have done the 3 days and finished week 1 heal so far. But it is something that I know I can keep up. This is not diet to lose weight or anything. Truly helps with rebuilding your gut.I only wish it would have featured the grocery list for each week.
Heartburn killer recipes & advice
It is refreshing to read and learn about some of the "yummy" foods that we eat and the damage they cause our health. This book is an eye opener and some of its recipes are great for our health and taste amazing.Plus they are easy to make and ingredients easy to get.We picked some recipes we liked - and have become very good at making these meals. Repetition improves over time....Highly recommended
Good first guide to start your game plan to heal
This book is a great introduction to gastritis. Gives done info and how to start the stop and heal phase. Following it, it has stopped me from eating a bottle of tums every week. A good first guide to a person who is lost on what to do when dealing with this horrible condition.
Well structured, easy to follow approach
First section goes into detail about the digestive system and the ways in which reflux is caused. I found this useful to help me focus in on where/when problems were occuring. The 3 day 'stop' plan really does work, and I keep coming back to this when I get off track. As well as lists of foods to avoid this book contains lists of 'safe' foods too which helped to make this less daunting. I did the 'heal' plan fairly strictly for about 5 or 6 weeks before starting the 'reintroduce'. The most astonishing part of this was discovering that when I cut out gluten, my psoriasis disappeared. There's even academic papers linking psoriasis and gluten. Who knew! I would add though, if you think gluten might be a problem, go see your gp and get a coeliac blood test done BEFORE you start this diet. This is not a quick and easy fix, and it requires dedication but I definitely feel like I'm making progress thanks to this book. As other people have said the recipes are american, but are easily adapted.

not what I expected
They propose to start with soft meals, that's good, but if you use carbs or sugar (which is proposed there) which is in honey, sweeteners, bananas, whole grains it will make you hungry again because of craving, and you will eat most probable again what causes that you add to your stomach more food and more probable that it will be too much and acid will go up ! I understand that this kind of 'solutions' are there to make our poor lives a bit easier, but it is not effective in this case what only cause that the procedure is useless.
