About the Author
Brian Hurtt is an artist/writer who has spent most of his career working on collaborative creator-owned projects. His first such collaboration was in 2006 when Brian teamed with writer Cullen Bunn to create the Prohibition-era, monster-noir, cult classic The Damned. A few years later, the two teamed up again to create The Sixth Gun, a weird-west, epic supernatural fantasy. Brian also contributes to the popular webcomic Table Titans, in which he is the writer and artist of the stories “Whispers of Dragons” and “Road to Embers.”

4.0 out of 5 stars Get For the Character Background Stories
The background stories lend support for purchasing Volume 4. The main story is dependent on the novel associated with the graphic novel. If you're not looking to read the novel associated with the graphic novels, then don't purchase.
5.0 out of 5 stars A Different Kind of Comic about International espionage and Action
If you like the old British television series "Sandbaggers," you are going to like "Queen & Country," a 4-volume comic book series that centers around the Special Operation Section of the Secret Intelligence Service (aka Military Intelligence-6 (MI-6)). The stories are written by Greg Rucka, but each story is illustrated by a different artist. This 4th volume is about 282 pages with illustrations in black and white. It includes three stories with each focuing on a central character: Paul Crocker (Minder Number 3) illustrated by Brian Hurtt; Tom Wallace (a former Royal Marines commando, promoted from Minder No. 3 to Minder No. 2) illustrated by Rick Burchett; and Nicholas Poole (22nd Regiment of Special Air Service (SAS) illustrated by Christopher Mitten. The first story is about Paul Crocker being sent to Prague to bring the KGB resident there over to the British, but the operation ended in a disaster. The second story is about Tom Wallace being sent to Hong Kong just before the territory's handover to the Peoples Republic of China to investigate the death of the number 2 of the Hong Kong station. The third story is about Nicholas Poole, a Corporal of the 22nd SAS, participating in counter-terrorism operations against the IRA in Northern Ireland. Unlike other comic books, the main characters here are just like other human beings, they make mistakes, occasionally fail to accomplish their missions, fall into depression, quit their jobs, get shot, and some even get killed. The stories also illustrate office politics, in-fightings, bureaucracy, and relationships. The elements make the stories and the characters more intersting. The artwork is as always nicely done and the stories fansinating. I have bought the entire 4 volumes and am pleased with them. The series won the Eisner Award and I wish there are more of them.
5.0 out of 5 stars Another great Volume
Rucka continues to produce great comic work. If you are a fan of any of the different comics he has written then you should pick this as well as the first three volumes of Queen and Country up.
5.0 out of 5 stars It's a book about the UK "Secret Service" written by Americans.... but you'd never know it!
Great read, if only there were more! Only the infamous kettle plug gives the game away that it's origins are US, well that and the baseball cap the SAS instructor is wearing, but honestly a great read well worth the purchase.
Back on track for vol 4
After the small ebb of vol 3, we went back to the groove of the first volumes. Sadly this is the conclusion of the adventures of the minders. I truly whish Greg Rucka did more in that universe, as there is still so much that can be told. It's a beautifully built universe - I'm hoping another author good get Rucka's blessing and move the story along some more.It had been a while since I devoured a comic series like this one.
Five Stars
GREAT BOOK.
A beautiful plot
Greg rucka definitely has a good story with tara chase and the queen and country plot. This graphic novel changed things for me as far as this genre is concerned. The story is deep and very consuming. I found the novels equally amazing and am wondering why it isn't an international hit.I came across the series late in 2008, and I literally lost my breath. For an ardent follower of frederick forsythe, it was a shock to see another writer almost equal his mastery in story telling as easily as Rucka did. You can almost picture tara walking out of the tube station and heading across the street to the office as unassuming as any other pretty english face you'd come across on any of London's grey sky days.Thats the power behind Greg Rucka's narrations. The action is lifelike and the scenarios are what we can all relate to. Is there someone that can tell Greg to please don't stop here?
What could have been...
I understand that there were two prose novels written about Queen & Country star Tara Chace and that these prose novels were split off from the graphic novels that spurned the character. For the life of me, I can not understand that thought process. They had such a hit series on their hands that they decided it needed to be fleshed out more in words? Let's use the GN success, Harvey and Esiner award nominations to drive sales on a prose novel? Really? Like, really, really?Personally, I don't believe the two types of individual cross-over. I'm sure there's some, but by and large, I don't believe that the majority of GN readers also read prose. I certainly don't.I read GN's specifically so I don't have to read meandering suppositions of what a particular setting or environment looks like. I don't like second-guessing whether or not my imagination is correct. I'd rather have an artist's conception of exactly what the writer is telling them it should look like so I can build the movie in my imagination as it moves from panel to panel. What this series is missing, and it's most certainly missing, is two more volumes on Tara Chace. What happened with the pregnancy? Is Tara running the minders now? What happens when she does? So, yea, go ahead a buy the whole series and be prepared to really enjoy it, and then be very much let down and disappointed by the end of it. Which, yes, is par for the course with a lot of comics, I know, but it's particularly sharp with this title as it was continued on, just not in GN form, but in the form of a prose novel.Ridiculous!
