The Perfect Speculator: How to Win Big in Up Markets and Lose Nothing in Down Markets

Description:

Brad Koteshwar, the author of The Perfect Speculator, first came to be known for his report on a phenomenal 7000% price run in 52 weeks by Taser International's stock. When he released that report he had written for his clients as a fiction and looked for publicity in the local Arizona media, he was rebuffed as the who's who in the small but affluent communities of Arizona were all owners of Taser stocks. None of them wanted to believe that the stock price on Taser had topped out in April 2004. In this book, Brad Koteshwar continues the simple lessons of the stock market in a teacher and student format using the character of Boyd Hunt, a master speculator, as the teacher. In this day and age where fast, loose and easy money is hawked by the hundreds of stock market books, the author shows how the old, tried and true principles have always worked in past market cycles and will continue to work in future market cycles. 5.0 out of 5 stars Brad's Books are Fantastic

A. · July 6, 2013

I love Brad's writing style and his approach to trading. The Perfect Speculator is a great extension of Livermore, Darvas and O'Neil. However, this book is finding and trading stocks using only technical analysis. Livermore and Darvas both tracked fundamental information to a degree, and O'Neil stresses it quite a bit. You will not find any of that here, and I suppose the assumption is that a stock that makes the screen in this book will probably have the fundamentals to back up the performance. It will be reflected in the price already. The simplicity with which he breaks down a complex topic is unique. He makes it look so easy. His trading style is very simple, yet very difficult. It is difficult to sit out of the market and do nothing. It is also difficult to pull the trigger on a trade after a meaningful correction, but it must be done. It is difficult to believe that meaningful returns can be made in the market doing something so simple. It is also difficult to stick to this system, as it will be very boring. But great trading should be boring. There is no reason to read financial news, watch CNBC/Bloomberg, or listen to other people's opinions about the market with this system. It is just you and the market. You will find a complete system in this book, from finding the right stocks, position sizing, exits and entries if you look closely. Even enough about trading psychology to give you a taste. There's not many books that will provide everything.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing book

The author has written this book with knowledge, patience, honesty and love. His explanations are clear, unbiased and wise. He has no intention to impress the readers by claiming that he knows "the best kept secret" about doing impossible - beating the market. His main goals are to advise traders on how to avoid making devastating mistakes before even make any gain and share his experience in picking a potentially winning stock. In doing so, he shows a deep respect for both the market and the reader. To my fellow readers: My only interest in writing this review is to share a huge excitement I had, when, as a novice trader trapped among thousands of stocks moving up and down chaotically, I got the sense that I spotted the light at the end of a tunnel. To the author: I hope in the next book, if you ever decide to write it, you will give us a hint about the stock price (penny stocks?), liquidity (average volume?), and the nature of unusual volume on breakout (real buying transaction vs acquisition in the non open market at $0) in the context of looking for a big stock.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Book

After reading over 150 market related books, let me start off by saying that this a tremendously valuable, insightful book on the art of stock speculation. Although the book is quite short, it is incredibly rich with examples of all of the essential trading axioms, such as: always trade in the direction of the trend, price action and volume (not news or fundamentals) are what matter, the fallacy of picking tops and bottoms, the importance of risk management and why cutting losses and letting winners run is integral. Looking back now on this book in my Kindle, I see the countless nuggets of wisdom highlighted throughout the book. This book is trend following in nature, so it may challenge your existing beliefs on the markets, especially if you are a fundamentals investor. My advice: keep an open mind and view this book objectively.Furthermore, the author has priced the ebook for less than the cost of a trade at a discount brokerage firm. To me, this shows that he is interested more in helping others than making money (he's made enough through his trading anyway), which is commendable.->Danny Merkel->Charting Trends Blog

Really enjoyed creating this book. There are many lessons I have been trying from last few years but that is a true struggle and everyone has to go through the tough road. Yes, market is the only one who is either your best friend or worst enemy if played against. All the best and thank you.

If you’ve read other investment classics by O’Neil, Darvas, Loeb, Minervini, Livermore, Wyckoff, you will certainly enjoy this book. I’m half way through and basically every page has lessons that can be worth a million dollars to some people.John Boik considers one of the top 15 books on investing and speculating. After reading about 50 or so books on trading myself, I would agree. Instant classic. Love it. Will be re-reading this probably more than once and highlighting notes
