I think this is the funniest, most coffee-table-worthy cookbook I've ever read. 'I might have put 'nduja on it too, I'm not sure,' 'That lettuce you always buy' as an ingredient, 'Oh god now I'm thinking about lasagna' mid-recipe -- I'm a fan. The pictures are also great in that you can mostly see what ingredients are in there which is not easy with all sandwiches, making it quick to show a friend or a potential future diner what you're thinking of making.I see people here with varying opinions about whether the recipes are worth following or not. I think something great about this book is that he's separated out the full recipes (making foccaccia, braising meat) vs the sandwich combinations themselves, so it's really up to the user how many of the elements to make from scratch, buy from a store, or somewhere in-between.I just need an American-British English dictionary because a few of these ingredients I'm still not sure what he means :)

This is what I expected. I was expecting suggestions for making various sandwiches but instead got a cookbook about more than sandwiches. Some might like this but I was a bit disappointed in the content.

El libro llama la atención por las fotografías que permite ver en el resumen, pero lastimosamente sólo son para la zona de sandwichs, las demás preparaciones no las traen. Ahora, esto seria tolerable pero el libro no permite traducción, ni resaltar y el índice no trae hipervínculos para ir directamente a la receta deseada y esto es decepcionante para quienes estamos acostumbrados a los libros más dinámicos: (

The material is great. The author - amusing, his recipes and methods - intriguing. Unfortunately, it is impossible to navigate the book or make bookmarks. The only option you have is "go to page". How am I going to know which page I need if I can't access the overview of the contents? Scrolling at the bottom of it is highly inconvenient. I had to return the book, sadly. Especially with a cookbook I want to be able to make notes and see the table of contents in once click.

The kindle version is horrible. Other cookbooks do not have this problem. I would try to enlarge a page, as I'm reading it on a phone, and it would jump to some random page. Feels like a series of jpegs hastily shoved together.

Okay, I must be honest: I may not make many (or any!) recipes in this book. It's not designed to be vegetarian or vegan forward. But it doesn't matter, because it's a great book! Just reading it will give you sandwich ideas you never considered, whatever your diet, and that's the point. The next best thing to actually going there!
Getting creative with sandwiches
Although some of the recipes are complex or time consuming, and some ingredients are hard to find, this book encouraged me to experiment and try sandwich combinations I otherwise wouldn't have come up with. The book is more useful as a source of ideas for sandwiches than for the sandwich recipes themselves. It is also very fun to read.

Great recipes, funny prose. I should take a star off for Max' bizarre aversion to cheese, but the recipes are just that good.

Gutes Kochbuch von nem lustigen Kerl aus England. Habs mir nach ein paar Youtube-Clips von ihm gekauft und bin von den ganzen Ideen, Sandwiches zu füllen, echt begeistert.

I love London and I love food, and the only thing I love more than London and food is books. So a book about London and food ticks all my boxes.So I decided to open my Bolo parcel with Max's book in Max's Sandwich shop - look at the picture of the famous "ham, egg and chips sarnie" - and then eat the sandwich...So I popped in on Sunday - and it was a brilliant experience - flicked through the book and then got my sandwich - good simple food done amazingly well...The book is such a great idea because everyone loves a good sandwich. And Max and Ben have a lovely way of communicating their passion about the "humble sandwich".By the way, Max's sandwich is on the front cover of Time Out London magazine this week and the "ham, egg and chips" is considered to be the one of the best sandwiches in London - if not the best.As a London food lover - I'll hold back judgement until I've eaten the other three sandwiches on the menu. And as for the book, it covers over a trillion sandwiches to make, talks about different breads, sauces etc and is full of lovely pictures.And if you take your copy to the shop, Max will sign it and write nice things about you or whoever you've bought the book for.I'm keeping my copy in my Black Cab - I'm a london cabbie - to encourage people to venture up to Crouch Hill and meet Max and eat his lovely sandwiches.
