I know many have said they are turned off by the many mentioning of "God" , but if you pay close attention to what you are reading you will know you will be able to do more than just scratch the surface and runaway from this book. Stay and learn something. One of my favorite quotes is right near the damn front of the book, it reads like this"I earnestly advice every alcoholic to read this book through, and through perhaps he came to scoff, he may remain to pray."Isn't that so true? They call you out on your bull before you can even post a review. Some scoff at the IDEA that there could be something greater to help along this journey or they pay close attention and embrace it.To put it more simply, when God Is referred to in this book it can be whatever you believe in. You don't have to look up to the sky and yell "oh smite me holy one" , you can just honestly just believe what you really do. If you want to believe in a sequoia tree there's Nothing saying you cant. Meditation as your deity? Cool, whatever you want including your favorite coffee shop;p Here's what I'm saying, upon reading this book what I have come to realize is that if I can't have faith in something I can't see, if I can't believe in something greater than myself , how can I help myself? There are much bigger and wiser beings out there, I don't know the meaning of life but you'll be doing yourself a favor if you just consider, just for a second the possibilities. Even if you end up by the end of the book hugging a damn sequoia tree with an iced coffee in your hand, it's an improvement. Good luck.

It's a classic
I bought this to use in Overeaters Anonymous; just switch out the word food for alcohol or overeater for alcoholic, and the lessons still apply. We use it in group and I read it on my own. Lots of highlighted sections and it can be read over and over and over again. Of course, the dark blue cover and dark blue title, are great for not advertising what you're reading, if you like a little privacy.
