Incredibly interesting and well thought out book. A keen glimpse of how people entertained themselves before the dawn of widespread cinema, TV, radio, smartphones or the internet. Fascinating book!

Games That Time Forgot is a fascinating read. This is a collection of parlor games from the 19th-early 20th century. It is infused with bits of history (i.e. Andrew Jackson was named "Old Hickory" for being a strict and bold military officer in the War of 1812). We are a family who loves games, and have been able to adapt some of these to fewer than a parlor full of people. Even in this time of social distancing, some of these games can be played virtually - such as "Tea-Pot", "I'm Thinking of Something" and "The Little Old Man's House" to name just a few. The author, Adam Shefts, has an amazing blog , "The Victorian Historian", which is very well written, and is a wealth of fascinating information and history. Both the book and blog are must reads.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really fun book

The author, Adam Shefts, is a known interpreter of the Victorian era ("The Victorian Historian") in Gettysburg. He has built a very good following with his presentations on this interesting time period. This is the first of his book spin-offs of his "Victorian Historian" persona and a great book it is. It profiles a number of Victorian era games and gives detailed instructions how to play them. I haven't yet participated in a "Victorian Historian game night," but I have heard that the games are not only fun to read about but also make for a good night's entertainment as well.
