Of all my art books this one is among my top three favorites. If you're in need of inspiration you'll find plenty of it in these pages. Are you feeling a bit bored with your usual routine and would like to try something different? There's lots to delve into here to keep you engaged for hours. If you're not careful you could lose yourself dreaming of its many posssibilities and not get anything accomplished at all!

I’m a hard book critic… they all have the same stuff I know, so it’s hard to find the outstanding.

I am an oil painter and watercolor artist, who likes alot of abstract landscapes and some really well done pure abstracts. I have not done any abstracts, so I thought I could get inspired by this book. Unfortunately, after receiving the book and going through it, I found the examples were messy looking and too busy. The color was all over the place, with no sense of color harmony. I guess I bought the book based on the cover painting, which I liked. Of course, this is just my opinion.I suppose I could put my own spin on these techniques, choose my color scheme, so I must try, but the book did not inspire me much.

If you're looking for detailed instructions to how to make abstract art and the thought process behind it, this is your book. I gobbled it up!

Zeer interessant boek! Goed gedocumenteerd wat betreft kunsttechnieken met veel beelden. De qualiteit van de foto's zeer goed. Ik kijk naar uit om mijn eigen kunstboek bij dezelfde uitgeverij te publiceren.
Exciting and informative
Loved the step by step analysis of how the paintings are created. Useful and accessible hints and tips. Wonderful, vivid pictures are an inspiration. Easy to understand explanations, delivered with a real sense of warmth and enthusiasm. Helen clearly loves her work and it's infectious. I was lucky enough to attend some of her in person workshops a few years ago and this book is the next best thing!

Great if you need inspiration and ideas
I am new to the painting world and have watched many you tube videos that just didn’t seem to be helping me. I am so glad I bought this book, it teaches all sorts of techniques from textures, tools, colours etc. I’m sure this stuff is taught in classes so may not be as interesting or new if you have been educated in art. It’s given me the encouragement to try some new ways of painting and will be a book I refer to a lot. Would recommend for someone experimenting with painting and media painting
Nothing new
Sadly I was terribly disappointed with this book. I have given 3 stars as it is nicely written and illustrated, however, I quickly thumbed through and put it down.If you are just setting up your art library or dabbling in this genre, you will most probably learn some good techniques.Me I have moved to a new muse!
