5.0 out of 5 stars Superb intro to tapestry weaving

R.C. · January 14, 2008

I have a fairly substantial library of books on weaving and textiles, and this is easily the best introduction I have encountered to tapestry weaving. The instructions are clear; techniques for a variety of special weaves for the beginner are introduced and easy to follow. The introductory pieces are reasonable for a beginner to complete-the tapestries are coarser weaves to lend themselves to teaching, while being attractive and fun to make. The photographs are excellent, and the samples of her work serve to inspire the reader to try bigger and more difficult projects. The author is an excellent designer and colorist, so much can be learned from her completed work. Highly recommended to anyone interested in understanding tapestry weaving or aching to give it a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent book

This is an excellent book for the beginner, or the experienced. I love the color photos which help to delineate the weaving process. It gives me the confidence I need to start and finish a project. As a beginner I need to see where I am going, not history , though interesting ,or extremely advanced projects. There are beautiful photos of intermediate and advanced work for inspiration , but the projects and techniques are not out of reach. For me it hit the right note. I have done only a bit of weaving but want to do more without the intensity needed in other types of weaving that include more measurement. I also ordered a similar book titled Tapestry Weaving , by Nancy Harvey. It too, is a great book , but this one is more accessible for the novice.

This is a great book with easy to follow instructions. Wonderful for beginners like me. It includes a very helpful step-by-step process of making a sampler and some ideas for future projects as well as some of the author's work that provide a flavor of what kind of artist she is. Highly recommended if you can find it for a reasonable price. I paid just under $17 for the book, which included the shipping.Update: I have found this book online for $30 with shipping on a loom company website; just put the author's name in the search engine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book for beginning tapestry weaving.

L. · February 5, 2019

This book contains the best photos for showing the step by step process of tapestry weaving. Easy to follow for any beginner you will find clear photos for each step of learning the way to set up and weave a tapestry. The author has many of her own weavings photographed in the book, but she has you refer to them throughout her teaching as advanced examples of some of the basics she is teaching. You also get a sense of her style and breath of her body of tapestry work. Once you have woven the first example you will be well on your way to being a "Tapestry Weaver"

I just received this book today. I honestly didn't think this book would be THIS AWESOME. But it is. The pictures inside are lovely. Very clear instructions are given about how to build a simple loom, costing very little using a picture frame. Now, how cool is that? And, the work inside the book is just lovely, very inspirational and will appeal to people with a variety of tastes. If you buy a book on tapestry weaving and you want to be inspired, get this one ASAP before it goes out of print again. You won't regret it. It's beautiful.
