About the Author

Chuck Dixon's résumé includes thousands of scripts for iconic characters like Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Iron Man, the Punisher, the Simpsons, Spongebob Squarepants, GI Joe and many others. He is (along with artist Graham Nolan) the creator of the Batman villain Bane, the first permanent addition to the Dark Knight's rogues gallery in 40 years and for which he won 1993's Wizard Fan Award for best new character. His graphic novel adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit is a perennial bestseller worldwide. His unprecedented 100-issue run on DC Comics', Robin is considered to be a classic in the comics medium. Chuck's contributions to Marvel Comics' The Punisher are widely acknowledged as integral to that character's development.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic read.

Outstanding read. Dick Grayson is my favorite Robin and getting the story as to how he ends up out of Gotham is great. The artwork in it is amazing.

Got it for my son. He loved it. A huge night wing fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Nightwing in Compendium format!

These classic Nightwing tales are presented in a complete format. Chuck Dixon was at his best when composing these tales. A must for any fan of a grown up Dickens Grayson.

4.0 out of 5 stars This should've been hardcover

C.G. · August 8, 2024

This book is as thick as an omnibus. Thick books aren't great for paperback because the binding becomes more prone to getting worn over time the more pages there are to it. I really wish they'd gone ahead and made it hardcover and charged me the extra to get it done.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this ! One of the best runs of nightwing!

U.r. · May 11, 2024

I waited forever for this book to be released and it’s finally here ! I love this run it’s what made nightwing become my favorite character and I’m just happy this is finally in my hands! I love this book so much and here’s to hoping we can get a volume 2 !

5.0 out of 5 stars Storytelling.. robin from the batman mythos and want to learn more about it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Super lame this isn't an omnibus.

G.M. · June 16, 2025

Super lame this isn't an omnibus. DC really cheaped out here. Much like the John Byrne Superman books that were solicited as omnis and then DC decided to release them as standard size hardcovers instead.Besides that, this book was surprisingly good. Easily the best Nightwing run and it's not even close. Nightwing unfortunately hasn't had very many good runs in my opinion. Dixon's writing is fast-paced straightforward crime stories with superheroes as the detectives and I love that stuff. McDaniel's art is definitely not to my taste but it sort of grows on you. I prefer Greg Land's, the second contributing artist in this book. The art would also look much better in a bigger format.Great intro to Nightwing and his world, with several appearances from Batman, Robin, Huntress, and Oracle, which are always welcome additions.

Great starting place for nightwing.

J. · September 25, 2025

This is a great book for if you want to start reading nightwing. This book shows dick graysons journey into becoming an independent hero of his own in the city of blüdhaven. There is also a good sprinkling of issues from different events in the second half of the book that will get you interested in reading different batman related events such as cataclysm and no mans land. The best part of this compendium is that after you are finished with this you can continue the story with compendium 2 and compendium 3 so there is so much more to read if you enjoy this story.

This book is radical!

F.P. · December 28, 2024

Essential if you are trying to get into Nightwing. Great story and great art. Sometimes for different issues the artist changes and that can be a little daunting but this is very good overall.

Relación calidad -precio.

W.P. · August 8, 2025

Prince of gotham

If you love nightwing this is a must read, it dwells deeper into nightwing as a solo character and how he operates outside of Batman's shadow. Regarding the condition of the book it arrived with few of its pages folded, as someone who loves good quality books this was not great.

Boy Wonder No More

D. · August 25, 2025

Dixon wrote one of Nightwing's greatest runs back in the mid-late 90s and it really put this formerly 'lost' character back on the map as a major player in the DCU. Without this run there are no subsequent runs for this guy, and I fear he'd have fallen into obscurity, given how little DC editorial used him prior to this (after his exit from the flagging Teen Titans books). The collection itself is solid, gathers together a huge run of early Nightwing (including O'Niel's mini series - it's skippable tbh, but I kind of liked his achey breaky mullet). The stories by Dixon are compelling, he establishes Bluhaven and uses it to max effectiveness (not seen again until Taylor's run tbh). The art by McDaniel is spectacular if you like fluid, action-based flow in an almost anime-style. It's as good as Nightwing ever gets and you won't regret having this TOME on your shelf.
