Another snowman story centered around kindness and gratitude is The Giving Snowman by Julia Zheng. Instead of children helping the melted snowman, it's a group of woodland creatures. I love to discuss ways this story represented kindness and giving. It's a great story to read before an activity where students share what they are grateful for either starting or ending the calendar year.

A lovely story about kindness and friendship
For our family, Christmas is about kindness and so this is a lovely addition to our collection of Christmas books. My children (6 and 8 years old) enjoyed this story. However I’m only giving this three stars for a couple of reasons. It felt like a version of Julia Donaldson’s “The Smartest Giant in Town”, without the appealing lyrical verse that makes Julia Donaldson books hold up so well to repeated readings. The other reason I’m only giving this book three stars is the physical quality of the paperback version. Both the covers and pages are thin, making it a book that I probably wouldn’t gift to others. However if you’re after an easy addition to your Christmas book collection, this is an option.
A generous person melts the coldest of hearts?
Often the best children's book are those relating the familiar in a simple and repetitive way.That is why in my opinion, The Giving Snowman will potentially become a classic. A beautiful story, lovingly illustrated to enhance the words, it shares the message of giving and gratitude.One of my greatest joys in snowy weather was building a snowman with my children.Snowman in this story, is well suited for the winter weather but those he meets are less able to cope with the freezing cold evenings. What little Snowman has he shares without thought of his own needs to ease the problems others are facing. Thereafter when they meet up again they are able to show their appreciation and repay him in their own way.This is a book I will treasure and read to my grandchildren and wait on the first snows of winter.
Excellent Example of Giving Mercy
This story illustrates well how giving mercy can encourage others to give mercy in return.. Such a lovely story and message for both my grandchildren and kindergarten students 😄☃️❄️
