I am glad they did because this story was captive. It was thrilling in some ways and heartbreaking in others but it shows that never giving up and keep going is the only way to survive. Highly recommended.
4.0 out of 5 stars So good!
Wow! This is a heck of a story. It's creepy and seriously twisted.
5.0 out of 5 stars Deserves 10 stars!!!
Wow, this one is dark. “The Dollhouse” by Sara Ennis, is a chilling psychological thriller that dives deep into the twisted mind of a man who collects children and turns them into living dolls. The tension is relentless as the kids struggle to survive Alfred’s violent temper and the horrific world he’s built. My heart ached for these kids as they clung to each other, hoping for a way out. I was completely on edge, desperate to know if they'd escape, be rescued, or fall victim to his deranged fantasy. Disturbing, suspenseful, and unforgettable. This story will haunt me for a long time.

Very odd book. Guy kidnapped kids and makes them play as dolls and take odd pictures. Easy read but very strange
4.0 out of 5 stars A challenging, but worthwhile read
CW: child abuse, murder of a child, torture, allusions to sexual assaultThis was an interesting one, indeed. It challenged my sensibilities. There have been a few books in my time that I’ve almost added to my DNF pile, but decided to push through. The Dollhouse would be one of them. What almost stopped me? Nothing more than the ages of the victims. At one point, I had to stop and ask myself if I really wanted to keep reading about such awful things. I didn’t think I did, really. Then, I kept thinking. This book isn’t all that different from what I'm used to. In fact, I’ve read even more grotesque than this. It never bothered me this much before. It’s just so difficult to put children into such a grim context, I suppose.I think this book has the potential to spark lots of debate, mainly the old favourite: “Nature vs. Nurture”. What percentage of a monster is born, and what percentage has to be created, encouraged, and honed by experience? Bullying was an enormous part of this narrative. So... how much of a role does social inequality and bullying play? How do even victims sometimes perpetuate the cycle? How easy is it, if at all, to feel sympathy and properly humanise someone like Alfred, when we know their side of the story? I can only wonder if he'd be different, and how much so, if he’d not had the experiences he had. Beyond that… dude, it’s a reason, NOT an excuse.Something I have started paying more attention to in recent years: different types of representation. The Dollhouse has HUGE potential for discussion of mental illness in media. How is it being represented currently? Mental illness is still such a stigmatised topic, and there are some disorders that are still so widely misunderstood and carelessly demonised, more than most. How far does the concept of “social responsibility” go when an author creates their characters? How can we be more socially responsible with representation there, and to what effect? In the end, I feel that there’s a lot more to this book than just some monster abducting and torturing children. If you can get past the brutality, it will provoke so much thought about people and society, and could lead to some meaningful discussions. A sequel is due out in December, and I’m eager to see what kind of heavy hits this next book will have.
5.0 out of 5 stars Glad I found your books
Wish I started reading your books a while back- I feel like I have wasted so much time reading books that lose my interest after the first 2 chapters. All I can say is I love the way this book was written, I love the way you write! And this is just the first book I've read. I'm so excited to start the next one. All I can say is THANK YOU Ms. Enni
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent on the edge of your seat thriller!
I was not one for thrillers. Yes I found a great author who writes domestic thrillers in Darby Kane and liked her books, but it was not my thing. The owner of our book club Kristin asked if anyone wanted to buddy this book with her, but not only this book but also the second book in this series because the third book was coming out May 1. I never heard of Sara Ennis and I said sure.Let me tell you I was not disappointed! This book is indeed a page turner! I read this book on every lunch break and regular break at work until I was done! Every chartactor is written very well and you can feel what they are going through. It is definitely a on your edge of your seat thriller! Sometimes it is like a bad train wreck, you know you should not watch but you want to see what happens. As you go on you find yourself asking yourself what if. It is a page turner and will hook you from the beginning to the end. Some of the subject matter will make you uncomfortable, but this is what a great psychological thriler does. Sara Ennis has been added to my favorite authors list!
Absolutely brilliant!

A brilliant page turning book that is dark, psychotic, addictive, and emotional. A couple of surprises and I thought the ending could have gone either way. It's rare a book gets me emotional but I was so invested in Angel there were tears at the end. Absolutely fantastic, will read more from this author. Fantastic writer!
Great read
I love a good thriller, moreso when I cannot see what's coming. This book is so that. It wasn't until I got near to the end that things started falling into place. While reading I didn't get much else done as this book was hard to put down. A couple of typos but other than that it was well written and the story flows.
Amazing read
Never expected the twist in the end! Amazing read, nail biting finish. Definitely want to read more books in the series.
Awesome Kindle Unlimited read
It took me a while to write this review after finishing this book. I absolutely loved this book!!!! I read this in a book club , which I was nervous about because sometimes I am a slow reader. Not with this book. I couldn't put it down. I lost sleep to finish it 🤣🤣🤣It follows twins, Angel and Bud, who are abducted by Jennifer and taken back to her home. Once there, they eventually meet another girl, Olivia, who was also abducted and has been with Jennifer and her partner-in-crime Alfred for a while now. The kids go through some absolutely horrific treatment while being confined to "The Dollhouse". Alfred forces them to dress up and re-create old photos with his new "dolls". The book is a roller-coaster ride of emotions and heart-wrenching treatment, all while their families are not giving up hope that they will return home again.Check your trigger warnings on this book before diving in. It deals with mental and physical abuse, mental health, death, bullying, and torture. The story is VERY well written. It really immerses you in what these kids endure in captivity, and you feel the pain of their families. I cannot recommend this book enough!! Well done @saraennis 👏
