God created us to express emotions. The book of Psalms is a book filled with expressions through poetry, song, and prayer. The words are emotional, image-invoking, and relatable because they involve the human experience. When Alabaster accompanied actual images to these honest words that were written around 500-1000 BCE, it all beautifully fit. Some of the images Alabaster chose to accompany certain Psalms were modern, while others were quite timeless. I appreciated the careful choices of such images. As an artistic person, seeing an image of a male figure with a distorted face helped me reflect on the loneliness of Psalm 77 and psalmist David wondering where God was. As a city-person, seeing actual green pastures helped me visualize the calm peace and trust of Psalm 23. While I own Alabaster’s Book of Psalm in NLT and grateful for its simplicity in its translation, I’ve always been a fan of the ESV because 1) it was what I was raised with and 2) it has more of a word-for-word translation that I tend to examine and study. I’m grateful that Alabaster is going about both spectrums of translations. I think my only gripe is a personal preference: I like collecting different translations of the Bible— I wish Alabaster used different photos in this ESV version. I think different photos not only help us see that they’re different translations of Psalm, but when I open up the ESV version and see a different photo, it will help me visualize and imagine something different because the words are worded differently and the images are also different. This way those that have already gotten the NLT version of Psalms don’t feel like they’re buying the same book (with the same images) just a different translation.My copy of Psalms (ESV) was complimentary through Alabaster’s Influencer Program.

My breath was taken away at the first sight and touch of Alabaster’s beautiful books! The artistic design of the ESV Book of “Psalms” guides the reader to see and understand the scriptures with beauty and a faith-filled-creative-mind. The images capture the message with a visual meaning taking you deeper into God’s Word. Every detail combining gorgeous design with the Word of God has been carefully created to bring the stories of the Bible to life in a fully understandable translation. It has been designed to allow us to slow down and let the Word take us to the visual images and grasp what God is trying to say to us through the story, taking root into our hearts. I also have The Bible Beautiful Collection of the Gospels and Proverbs of which I absolutely love! This is a must-have book for anyone wanting to experience God’s presence through the visual representation of the Psalms. This isn't bad but it definitely didn't bring the inspiration to reading that I had hoped it would.

What an accomplishment. It’s impossible to improve the Word of God but I love seeing an improvement in how it’s presented. Alabaster’s Book of psalms is accurate, beautiful and it’s pages are a joy to turn. The photography is fantastic and the the themes are well represented. If I were offered a chance to give my input, The only thing I would do is reduce the number of portraits. Especially human portraits. I found that to be a bit distracting from the word to see modern/mostly American faces mixed in within the scriptures. I would have included more of their beautiful scenery, nature and building photos. I feel like the human portraits will eventually date the book.That said, I was grateful to receive this preview from Alabaster, grateful to review it, and will certainly display it in my home along with the other books we have purchased from Alabaster and Co. They make beautiful books and handle Gods word with respect!

They did it. Alabaster has taken my favorite book from the Bible in a version that I love (ESV) and created a beautiful visual narrative that pairs so well with it. Coming from someone who tried jump-starting her faith in her early teens without success because of the difficult language I'd encounter in the Bibles I could get a hold of, holding this book (years and a lot of faith later), the power of the imagery found in it profoundly impacts and deepens the understanding of what I am reading. Leading a big team of visual storytellers in and out of church, Alabaster's work has been a front and center source of inspiration and example.From igniting living room conversations to enriching my devotional life to even inspiring people in my team and beyond, Alabaster's books have encouraged me as a creative.Thank you for my complimentary copy through Alabaster's Influencer Program. I am a photographer, so images and color call my attention like no other. I have been reading all of my Alablaster books non-stop because not only do I love the readings but I love the photography and how it ties in with the reading. The images give what I am reading a spark, just a sensation that goes through my bones because I get to truly image what I am reading as if it were a movie. I love books, but I also love easy reads. Ones where I feel accomplished and completely satisifed. All of Alablasters books do that for me. I have mine laid out at home and so many of my guests walk in and are suddenly intrigued with the beauty of the book and shortly fall in love with the reading.Thank you Alablaster!- JaZz
