As a MS Science educator, teaching CER is a must! I love how super simple the author has made it! This is my seventh year teaching and Mr. Phillips method will definitely be apart of my lesson plans all year. I have already spoken to my science chair to use this outline to assist with middle-high school science course vertical articulation.I recommend this to every teacher of science! Wonderfully simple method! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

I read this during the summer. I created a slideshow and presented it to my 8th graders. They now have used the format for a quarter. It is a work in progress but I see significantly better writing this year than in past years.

This resource is a very easy and quick read, but is packed with useful information that can be utilized in the classroom immediately. I am a first year teacher and don't have time for anything, but I fit this book in and it will save me so much time in the long run!

I teach 9th gr science. This is the best initial tool to help students understand how to approach and write a scientific CER and for teachers to understand how to grade CER assignments fast!

Book is simplistic. It offers no more insight into scientific writing than the letters CER. It does not dig deeper into evidence as qualitative or quantitative. It does not offer development of writing. The formulaic shortcuts, while opening writing for students who struggle with sentences, shortcut the function of language as an expression of understanding.

I thought this book would be more questions and templates and ways to structure student writing into claim, evidence, reasoning mode but it was more erudite than expected. Looking for a book with an easier to understand approach to claim, evidence, reasoning writing. This unfortunately was not it for me.
