Reckless (Chestnut Springs, 4)

Description:

He's scorching-hot trouble wrapped up in a drool-worthy package. And he's looking at her like she might be his next meal.

Theo Silva. Rowdy bull rider. Notorious ladies' man. Winter Hamilton knows exactly what it means when he eyes her like that. But she's almost free of her toxic marriage and has sworn off men entirely. So all she sees when she looks back at Theo is temptation served up with a heaping side of heartbreak. The man is hard to trust―but, it turns out, even harder to resist.

Make that impossible. Because Theo is persistent. And no matter how hard Winter tries to freeze him out, he melts her icy exterior and pulls apart all her defenses. Over a drink in a small-town bar, she finds herself blurting out her deepest, darkest secrets. Then, she spends the singular hottest night of her life with the man she never thought she'd say yes to.

He worships her body. He makes her blush. She comes alive beneath his hands. Then she tells him to forget it ever happened. She wants simple, and with him it all feels complicated.

It was supposed to be a one-time thing. A secret.

But that little plus sign is going to make this secret impossible to keep.

I love a smitten man, especially one who doesn't hesitate to step up to a challenge. This sunshine hero fell for his sharp-tongued, complicated woman the moment he laid eyes on her, and I kinda loved that. It didn't have instalove vibes for me because of the way their love story progressed, but I adored the fact that our hero knew she was it for him. There was no one else for this playboy hero after that, which made the romance that much sweeter. I loved how steadfast and determined he was to make things work, and I even loved that he knew he needed to work on himself to earn that right. It's the kind of love story that would usually turn me off, but I couldn't help but fall for these two. We've seen Winter as this cold and aloof woman throughout the series, so it was fantastic to see that she could come alive with just the right person. It's a messy, emotional love story, but one that proved to be worth the struggle - I loved it!The story follows Winter, a woman most would consider an ice queen. Her past experiences have made her put up some walls, and that means she can come across as cold and unfeeling. When she finally makes the decision to leave her (terrible) husband, Winter knows she's about to start making some important changes in her life. Little does she know just how many. While trying to make amends with her estranged sister, Winter meets an incorrigible flirt, Theo. He's a bull rider with a reputation as a ladies man, but he's starting to realize that he's going to need to make some changes himself if he wants people to take him seriously. And if he wants a chance with a woman like Winter for more than one night, then he's going to need to put in the work. So when their one night stand results in a pregnancy followed by some serious miscommunication, Theo has his work cut out for him. Winning over a woman like Winter was always going to be a challenge, but now her walls are higher than ever.I always say that second chance romances are tough for me, but the only trope that I NEVER voluntarily read is secret baby - and this was billed as a combination of both. So I was very hesitant to jump into this, despite the fact that I'm a big fan of the series. And no one is more surprised than me that the secret baby scenario actually worked for me, mostly because it doesn't follow the traditional trajectory. (MINOR SPOILER) Winter reaches out to Theo as soon as she finds out she's pregnant, but someone else responds to the messages. That results in a separation where they're thinking very different things about each other, and it creates a lot of hurdles for Theo that he wasn't even aware of. The moment he meets his daughter for the first time absolutely ripped my heart out, and I knew that I was all in on the love story after that. It's heavier and more emotional than I expected, but I loved both characters. I liked seeing a different side of Winter for sure, but Theo steals the show here. He really steps up, and I loved the way he was with both of his girls. It's angsty and swoony in equal measure, and the slow-burning romance won me over in a big way. Another excellent installment in the series, this was a fulfilling read.Audio note: The audio is great! I've been listening to more Joe Arden recently, and I really love his voice. It's deep and gruff, and he's able to infuse so much emotion into his vocal performance. I've always been a fan of Savannah Peachwood, and she does a stellar job here as well. Her crisp voice works well for Winter, and the combination made for an enjoyable audio experience. The runtime (about 10 hours) meant that I binged over the course of two days, but I was always excited to get back to the book. I'm not sure I'd recommend this one for a workday listen - the spice doesn't really kick in until the back half, but I got pretty emotional at times. And once the spice kicked in, it was pretty intense. Other than that, highly recommended in the format!

A one night stand that changes it all. Again, I couldn’t put it down and I devoured this book in two days. Wow. Were some obstacles unnecessary? Yes. But they resolved pretty quickly. I wish there was a bit more of an arc to Theo. Just having insecurities felt forced at times. But reading the moments of him being fully vulnerable were addictive. I wish there were more of them. Winter’s side of the story really showed how you don’t know someone’s real nature until you break down their walls. It was nice to have your mind adjust and change toward her character. There was a reason Sloan really liked her in the last book. And a true reason why Theo could not stay away from her.

Who would have thought that Theo would be daddy Theo so strong and willingly! And let’s just say this book makes you realize that winter isn’t the heartless woman everyone believed her to be! I loved seeing her get her redemption in this book, and the love between Theo and winter was admirable!

So this story actually starts at the end of the previous book Powerless. Winter and Theo are at each others throats at the end of Powerless. From here we get to see where Winter and Theo's story starts to develop. They have a push and pull relationship. Winter wants Theo in a way she's never wanted another man including her ex-husband and Theo wants her just the same.Winter has been spoken about in the previous book that I read (I didn’t read the first book Summer's story) but she wasn’t spoken about in a good way. It seemed like she was a jerk and didn’t treat her sister right. But it seems like Winter's come to a realization that having a relationship with her sister might be the best thing for her. Especially because she has no one else in the world that wants to help her. So she decides to form a relationship with her sister. She also decides to leave all the toxic people in her life and start over closer to Summer. This is where she meets Theo, Theo is a bull rider that has a very specific goal that he has in mind and he's willing to do whatever it takes to win. He meets Winter and for a little while he lets himself be distracted. But he knows both him and Winter are not ready for each other, since she's also fresh out of a marriage.Fast forward and surprise Winter ends up pregnant. So going into this story I thought I wasn’t going to like Winter because of how she was previously, but I found myself really enjoying her as a person and seeing how everyone in her life failed her. No one had her back and no one was there for her in anyway, so she's learned to only trust herself. I started to really feel for her and understand why she was the way she was.I also love that she decided to work on her relationship with her sister and do the work it took to mend the relationship. No to mention she gave up on her toxic family and ex. I loved seeing her and Summer become closer and depend on each other. I also loved her relationship with Sloane, which we saw budding in the previous book. Summer's new family and friends took Winter in and finally she had people she could trust.Enter Theo back into her life after all of this takes place and he finds out he has a kid. Winter has been healing and Theo has been making a name for himself. It seems like they're finally in a place where they can be in each others lives.I loved watching Theo and Winter take care of Vivi, and how Theo stepped in with no question as to if he'd take care of his kid. Absolutely loved them together. And how he helped Winter believe that she could depend on him and he would be there for her.Theo was so sweet this whole book, he saw deeper than the exterior and the tough person that Winter had to show everyone. He saw her for who she really was. He also saw how people hurt her and how many people let her down, he did his best not to be one of those people.Ahhh I am just in love with Theo and Winter and Vivi. Omg and we can't forget the rest of the Eaton family. Harvey is absolutely my favorite!Elsie Silver is now one of my favorite authors and her books will be on pre-order until further notice.

Cute little romance paired with some hot smut. I didn’t really care for the way there was a reason for everything. Sometimes people just make mistakes and there doesn’t need to be some bigger reason why behind it for them to be forgiven. I think the story would have been more impactful if Summer wasn’t twisted and manipulated into being some sort of childhood martyr. The forgiveness and the healing would have impacted me more. Other than that I ate it up.

Theo and Winter are opposites attract perfection-their connection and chemistry instantly shone through on the page! I had a permanent smile the entire time. It had all the fun banter and sweet interactions. The entire storyline and character development in this book along with some very satisfying moments that rounded out the story was wonderful. I couldn’t put it down.I cannot say enough good things about Winter. I loved the side of her we got in the book. She is so much more than I could’ve imagined from the little glimpses we got in previous books. We even got some answers (though not necessary I recommend reading the other books first). She really is a fantastic character, her strength was everything, she has been through and overcame so much which made her someone you easily rooted for.Let’s give a special shout out to all the glory that is Theo Silva. I have seen it from other readers, and I will absolutely put my two cents in-he gives Cade Eaton a run for his top spot. Theo is all kinds of wonderful and swoony spicy goodness. You will not be left wanting.Elsie told their story is such a beautiful way! I laughed, my heart hurt for them both. They are just what the other needs in their lives, and I loved seeing as they worked for their HEA.I know a lot may be a little wary of the tropes included, but like others have said trust the process and trust in the author, she delivers! Not only is this whole series a must read, but you absolutely must run to grab Reckless.I loved being back in Chestnut Springs and with this family. This author has me so excited for the next book-especially after the sneak peak.5⭐️
