5.0 out of 5 stars great read
It was a great read. It was well written and kept me engaged the whole time. It was so suspenseful and a fantastic ending.
4.0 out of 5 stars An Addictive Ride
I couldn't put this down! This was easily an addictive read for me, and probably one of the top Freida books I've read.Sydney Shaw has had awful luck with dating - each prospect has been worse than the last. One night, after a particularly awful date, Sydney is cornered by her date in question, and rescued by a mystery man - a man who ignites a flame within her, but moments after the encounter he disappears without a word.Shortly after, a brutal murder occurs within Sydneys building, and her ex is leading the investigation. It seems as though this murder may be connected to a recent string of similar murders, and Sydney's ex convinces her to call off dating for a while - until Sydney reunites with Mystery Man. The two hit it off, and everything seems perfect - until the cracks begin to show in Mystery Man's persona. What follows is a story of obsession, of possession, and the darkness that can grow within a person.I thought I knew where this was going but it took me by surprise. I was so invested in the story - seeing the flashbacks of Tom and his life thus far. Sydney, however, was a little infuriating at times - she definitely had the clueless main character in a horror story vibe, and it was so frustrating to read her thoughts when encountering some things.Overall, entertaining (in a thriller type of way), twisty, and I highly recommend!
5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!!
Freida McFadden has written another great thriller. The book is a quick read and has an unexpected twist that you don’t see coming. I’ve read several of her books and an unexpected twist is a signature move in her storytelling. Nobody does it better.
3.0 out of 5 stars A fast-paced, easy read that will shock you at the end.
This story starts with Sydney going on what could be called the worst first date of all time. The guy she met on a popular dating app looks nothing like his profile photo, he makes her split the bill, pressures her to drink, and then answers a call from his mother on their date. And then he's aggressive when Sydney doesn't want to kiss him, or go on another date. But a mystery man comes to her rescue but then disappears back off into the night. Until weeks later, she's on another date and runs into her mystery man again. Things take a different turn and they start dating. Until certain pink flags start popping up...So Sydney's character drove me a little crazy. She's 34 years old and it seems like her whole life revolves around dating. Yes, that could be how the story is written and we just don't learn more about her. But I think the other thing that drove me nuts about Sydney is that I know Sydney's in real life, and I immediately thought of these people and how much their behavior drives me nuts. Just the sort of laser focus on dating and weddings and having kids and it's like everything else barely exists. *As a caveat, you should do exactly what you want in life, but sometimes I feel like people sort of miss the forest for the trees when they do this*.Tom is the other POV we see in this story and we're seeing his past: from his first love, Daisy, to his father's death, to the mysterious happenings in his hometown.I know Freida McFadden is known for her big twists and I'd say this one was done quite well. I had suspected it to some extent just because some things were too obvious; kind of like in CSI when they aggressively interview the first person 10 minutes in; you know it CAN'T be them since there's another 40 minutes of the show left.I would definitely recommend this story if you're looking for a popcorn thriller that's an easy read, and fast paced. There isn't a massive amount of character development, but the story moves quickly and this one is a quick read that will leave you wondering what the hell just happened.
4.0 out of 5 stars What a Twist!?!?!
🛑SPOLIERS🛑⭐️: 3.75/5WHAT A RIDE...This is the first book I have read by Freida McFadden. I know she is a huge thriller author and I wanted to read a book by her. This book I came across while looking for good thrillers. Also, it is heavily recommended on TikTok.I decided to read and I can say I slightly enjoyed it.The book started off slow and then fast and then and then fast. The whole dynamic because Syd and Tom from the beginning was strange. I didnt understand what was going through her head half of the time.It was like I was trying to find out who every character was ans I couldn't. Then Bonnie was murdered and I just couldn't put the pieces together. I knew from the beginning Tom was involved but I did not know exactly how he was.I had a feels he was not the killer but I knew for sure the killings were connected to him.My biggest issue with this book was the twist and ending happened to fast. First we find out who Gretchen is and then all of a sudden she runs away with Tom.Though Tom was acting like he loved Syd and wanted to be with her. But instead it was a fetish because he liked her bleeding. But nothing was thought out the end. Also, I should have known something was up when the woman just acted so naive. Like seriously?I will say I did enjoy Tom's perspective. I was more interested in when spoke rather than Sydney. Also, the twist was out of nowhere and I liked being wrong. But I was hoping Daisy/Gretchen would get hers after all the people she hurt. It seemed like Syd just accepted they were gone which was nuts to me. The Kevin storyline was just unnecessary. This book was ok. I would totally recommend it but I just feel there is no much missing. I need more. But this won't be my last read by Freida!

exhilarating
"The Boyfriend" by Freida McFadden is a masterful dive into the world of psychological suspense that grabs your attention from the very first page. This engaging thriller thrives on its ability to keep you questioning every character's motive, ensnaring you in a web of intrigue and unpredictability.Right from the start, McFadden's storytelling prowess shines through as she crafts a narrative rich with tension and countless twists. The plot is a roller-coaster ride, deftly balancing between what seems obvious and what lurks beneath, keeping you on your toes as you try to piece together the puzzle. The "whodunit" aspect is particularly compelling, compelling you to second-guess yourself at every turn.McFadden's characters are compellingly complex, leaving you constantly reassessing their roles in the unfolding drama. Every chapter propels you further into a maze of deception, ensuring you remain hooked until the very last page. Her writing is sharp and precise, with a pace that never lets up, creating an atmosphere that's both claustrophobic and fascinating. In summary, "The Boyfriend" delivers an exhilarating reading experience, with Freida McFadden at the helm of a story that doesn't just entertain, but also challenges the reader's perceptions. It's a perfect choice for anyone who loves a suspenseful, brain-teasing novel that will keep you guessing right to the nail-biting conclusion.
