About the Author
Phil Bourjaily sold his first outdoor story—on snipe hunting—to Field & Stream in 1985. Today, he is the magazine's Shotguns columnist and co-writer, with David Petzal, of the "The Gun Nut" blog on Fieldandstream.com. He is the author of the Field & Stream Turkey Hunting Handbook and, as a turkey hunter, has renounced early mornings in favor of sleeping in and killing spring gobblers between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. He makes his home, with his wife and two sons, in his birthplace of Iowa City, Iowa.

For years, I have followed Petzal and Bourjaily’s quality journalism in the pages of Field and Stream. Their experience and breadth of knowledge is legendary, yet they both convey ideas and practical skills with down to Earth language that is comprehensive and compelling. You can easily sense the care and passion both writers have for the topic, and their complete expertise on each topic.Each segment of this book is presented in a bite sized chunk, with well done artwork, graphics, and photography to illustrate the material. The combination of fine writing and illustration make this a textbook of general firearm ownership and an educational manual of hunting and shooting techniques. Written for both beginners and intermediate level firearms enthusiasts, the breadth of materials on rifles, pistols, and shotguns, will be sure to inform even experienced shooters an hunters. This has become my standard gift to people young and old that are just entering the world of shooting, and I have read this, and prior editions, many times for refreshers.

Much of it is basic, but it’s good read and refresher on some things I had forgotten about. Dave Petzal is a hero of mine. I just wanted a little more meat on the bones.

this is fantastic- i was fairly read about firearms and this fought me so much more. i love this series of books by outdoor life/field and stream.
Excellent Quick Reference
This book is best described as a "Coles Notes" for shooting sports. High quality pictures & diagrams from cover to cover. Excellent reference for the novice and experienced hunting/shooting sportsperson. You will find yourself flipping through it often.
Lots of experience presented in an entertaining style
I am a German shooter since decades and was still learning and loughing. The book is a very general overview but still full of details which might help you. It is written in an entertaining funny way and full of jokes based on an outdoor humor grown in field and woods…Thank you authors, thank you Bolo.

Lot of info just be aware all of others version of this book are exactly textbook the same. I bought all of them thinking i was gettin different info big deception.
