5.0 out of 5 stars MARCH, AND THE WEATHER'S MISERABLE
I loved the different threads in this book and how they all tied together. And so glad to have Holly Gibney back as well as other characters I've grown to enjoy. There's been a warning sent to the police that thirteen innocents will die...and the author of that note is dead serious.Kate McKay, a women's rights activist, is being stalked and threatened and enlists Holly to be her body guard. What a trip! Kate is stubborn, headstrong, and truly believes she is invincible....all of which makes Holly's hard job even harder.King keeps the suspense and tension flowing between these two story lines; at times I was sitting on the edge of my seat. The writing is superb, the characters wonderful, down-to-earth, and familiar, the plot exciting. You won't be disappointed with NEVER FLINCH. There's plenty of action, excitement, and surprises....just exactly what you would expect from King.
4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining As Always
Holly Gibney has a lot on her plate: there’s a serial killer at work, someone that her friend Izzy is trying to flush out; a feminist speaker is on tour and requires Holly’s services as a bodyguard because, in addition to the usual pro-life crowd, there’s also a stalker after her; and legendary singer Sista Bessie is coming out of retirement to put on a string of shows, and she wants Holly’s friend Barbara to be a part of it. Not to mention the annual charity baseball game between the cops and the firemen, which always draws a crowd. And everything is coming to a head all at the same moment…. By now, I don’t imagine there’s a reader out there who doesn’t know about Stephen King and his work, and presumably one either likes his work or does not; there’s not a lot of “meh” around his books. I have been enjoying his work for many years, in fact used to buy his new book each June (which is when they reliably would come out; sometimes one in December too), read it and then give it to my late mother for her birthday (or for Christmas), and here he displays his usual tricks of the trade: relatable and succinctly drawn characters, ratcheting up of tension amid a sense of inevitability, and little details that anchor the story in real, contemporary American life. In addition, he’s got one of my favourite characters of his in Holly Gibney; it’s been a joy to see her grow and develop as a private investigator and a person, and I love the fact that she’s an unprepossessing middle-aged lady who almost might be anybody. As with everything these days, there are some parts of this book that will upset people for ideological reasons, but also as ever, Mr. King’s writing is compelling and a great ride; recommended!
5.0 out of 5 stars Holly rides again
Love the whole Holly storyline Stephen King has be serving up lately, its very good plots, and each time I read his scary novels I am struck freshly with admiration for his skill. To me, it's not the strange horrors that invite me inside his books, but the people who get stuck in those horrors. They're very realistically created, just seems like I've met them or *been* them at some point in my life. And Holly's life has been quite a ride! I feel like we'd be friends by now if she was real, because she has such COURAGE to be herself after the parenting her mother gave her. While nobody's parents are perfect, her mom was especially "poopy," to quote a Holly-ism. This book also takes up the pro-choice/pro-life arguments that are very vital to today's events; I'm glad King isn't afraid to weigh in on this divisive issue according to his own conscience. You might suspect I'm pro-choice from my reaction to his stance, but you'd be wrong. I'm actually pro-privacy in women's health matters; how can we consider ourselves equal to men when they are afforded this privacy and women are not? We need to be treated equally under all laws, state and federal both!I Guess that makes me in favor of equal rights, too, lol. But I'm happy because the book had a happy enough ending, no specific spoilers, lol.
5.0 out of 5 stars This is the first Stephen King book that I have read. I enjoyed it.
This is the first Stephen King book that I have read. I enjoyed it. I usually don't like books that are longer than four hundred pages, but King's book held my interest, and I couldn't put it down. I liked it so much that I bought another King book, Holly. The principal character in the book, which I am told appears in other books, is Holly, a short, middle-aged, brilliant private investigator. We are also introduced to other fascinating people, including a female police officer, a soul singer, and individuals who assist Holly and the soul singer. There are two gripping plots. In one, a furious, deranged man kills people in revenge for the murder of an innocent man. The second plot concerns religious people who plan to kill a woman who preaches that women should have the right to an abortion.
Non particolare
Mi è sembrato un po' troppo simile ai precedenti della stessa serie.
Good publishers
Good read. Half the fun lies in the quality of publishing. Hodder and Stoughton have done a good job with the size of the book and the font size. Nice page quality as well.

Twist
Plenty of twists. Keeps you reading right to the end loved it. And I love Stephen Kings books bring on another one
