5.0 out of 5 stars Historical fiction meets spy thriller
Great read. Kept my attention throughout. Hardly put it down this past weekend. Wouldn’t be surprised if this didn’t end up a movie if they could ever figure out how to cast Peter. Feels like a more intellectual Jason Bourne novel with much more character development. The author’s use of time and place stamps on each chapter serve to quicken the pace in your mind. The author obviously knows a tremendous amount about the Cold War and East Germany (and its fall) and Western Europe in general. This gives his writing a great sense of realism that makes you feel like you’re really there. The next book hopefully will focus on the adventures of Peter as an adult. Can’t wait to read it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing from the start
An intriguing plot and beautifully written novel. The Prodigy by Dee Replogle, Jr. is captivating from the first chapter and hard to put down. The characters are well developed, the story progresses at an exciting pace and the premise actually seems plausible in today’s scientific world. One of best books that I have read in a very long time and look forward to his next book.
5.0 out of 5 stars I could not turn the pages fast enough.
This is a fantastic historical fiction thriller. Though dense and full of details, I could not read it fast enough. A new facet of the era of post-WWII East Germany woven in with post-reunification of East & West Germany which had my brain analyzing history in a different way. Bravo on a first publication to the author and fellow Oklahoman.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Historical Fictions
Setting is East Germany shortly before the ‘Wall’ comes down. Members of the Stasi, East German Secret Police, are focused on surviving the oncoming traumatic political changes and escaping the expected retribution. Add the fact that one highly placed agent has a child ‘Prodigy’ who his superiors see as a key to that much needed protected future. This leads the father of the ‘Prodigy’, in an effort to protect his son, to attempt an escape. Very interesting plot with lots of twists and turns. Most enjoyable to those who enjoy Alan Furst type books.
5.0 out of 5 stars Page Turner
A gripping story that will have you turning the pages from the first chapter. Well written and packed with historical references.
5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping!
The author’s prose yields immersive imagery that invokes not only the appearance but the essence of the settings and characters. A page turner that leaves you hoping for a sequel where we see the development of young Peter.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read!
Great read. You will have trouble putting the book down. An easy 5 star and a book you will enthusiastically recommend to your friends.
5.0 out of 5 stars A well-potted thriller that merges geopolitics, action, and science
