All the Little Raindrops: A Novel

Description:

The chilling story of the abduction of two teenagers, their escape, and the dark secrets that, years later, bring them back to the scene of the crime.

It’s senior-year spring break, and Noelle Meyer and Evan Sinclair have been kidnapped. Neither knows why they were chosen, only that they share a tragic past: Evan’s father got away with killing Noelle’s mother, effectively ruining her family when the death was ruled an accident.

Despite the connection that should have made them enemies, the teens instead unite to face their other common denominator―their abductors. Noelle and Evan survive one sadistic circumstance after another, eventually making a harrowing escape. But every happy ending comes at a price…

Years later, Evan, now a private investigator, revisits the crime when he learns it may be ongoing. He reaches out to Noelle for help, and they discover that the answers lie with a man known only as the Collector. To close their case and solve the ones that followed, Noelle and Evan must unmask this mysterious spectator―the only man who knows enough secrets to take their captors down.

Well, DANG!! Please heed any content and trigger warnings on this one because it's a thriller and it's dark and contains content that will be a no go for many. But with that....WOW!! I couldn't stop reading/listening to this one and want to know what goes on in the mind of sweet Mia Sheridan. ;)I was first drawn to All the Little Raindrops from the author herself. I love her romances, but I also like her dark side. Next was the cover that I found absolutely stunning. BUT, then you open the pages, or in my case start the audio....that's where the beauty ends. You are thrown into a story that I would call Hunger Games, trafficking style. It is brutal and horrendous and left me with my jaw open. Told in multiple POVs we follow Noelle and Evan as they are kidnapped and held against their will in cages and forced to make horrible decisions in order to survive what is being thrown upon them. But why were these teenagers taken and what could it mean that they are two people that have had a past that was already connected?Ms Sheridan immediately dropped us into storm and then took us into a darkness that even I couldn't fathom. She crafted it in such a way that we not only got to experience the trauma, but we also got to be there for the resilience these characters held. From their trauma came a bond. A reverse Stockholm syndrome, if you will. After an intense escape, Sheridan provided us with a journey that spanned years and with that came a story of survival, PTSD and searching for answers. This is a story that immediately pulled me in and didn't let me go until the very end. The narrators captured the complete essence of the characters and the story. I have to wonder if they are all right after their performances of this brutal journey of two people that found a connection within the dark. I liked how the author sprinkled clues throughout and still held enough back to make me wonder how everything was going to come together in the end. This wasn't just a story about Noelle and Evan, but about a past that was equally disturbing. Although this was a thriller, we do get some romance, but that was never at the forefront. I'm glad we got something that held a little bit of light within the dark.Overall, this was a great psychological thriller that was executed well. From the plot, to the characters, to the span in timeline, Sheridan proves to up her game each time she dives into the thriller genre. Highly recommend if you can stomach it. And if you're an audio listener, the narrators brought this story to life with their cinematic performances.

3.5 stars! I was completely invested! This book was good. I loved the characters and was completely knee deep in their plight.... Until chapter 25. That's when my dislike for the FMC started. The way she treated the MMC was atrocious. I was so mad! Did she redeem herself by the end? Barely, but she kinda did. I just have to conclude that she did a whole lot of groveling after the fact. All in all a great read.

I am always looking for new authors. Kindle Unlimited has been a great introducer. What I don’t do is spoil a great story. I expect the author to create complete characters. Good guys, bad guys, minor players. I want to hear them. Pick them out as we pass each other on the street. I expect the author to take me on a journey. I’m not looking to solve a book or realize the ending at the beginning of a book. I expect the author to take me there. This book was hard to get into at first. I kept going because I liked the characters. The subject was distasteful but a reality.I’m not sure, yes I am, when I get to the midway point of a book, I have to finish because in my mind, halfway means I’m almost at the end. Before midpoint, the light bulb went off, and I had to finish. There are so many characters that I was invested in, that I had to know there story. Origin stories are important. The dominoes started falling. Please trust me, this is a fabulous book of suspense or a thriller. I got what I didn’t expect.

I got this book as part of Amazon Firsts, where you get a free book a month or so before the main release. For the second book in a row, compared to many books that I read, I didn’t highlight many parts of the text as standing out for any particular reason. In many ways I am pleased that I didn’t have much to highlight as relatable for the content is dealing with some truly awful behaviour and events.I think Sheridan handles the subject matter well, and it is generally not overly graphic. It tells you enough, while leaving the rest to your own imagination. But for anyone who has ever suffered any personal physical attacks, (I suspect that) this book should be avoided. You can read more about what the book is about from the blurb that appears with the book at retail sites. Here are just a few of the lines that stood out to me,he’d hoped to have a few more minutes to talk about mundane things. Sad things. Because it felt like they mattered too little now. And it felt like they were everything. Life had become a circle of conundrums, and he didn’t know how to make it make sense .I think we often overlook the small, mundane things in our lives and the valuable role they play in grounding us in some form of normality. He’d thought her plain at first, but that was before he’d seen the fire that made her glow from the inside. The one that made her beautiful .I love this description and the way that it emphasizes that what’s on the inside is such a key element of beauty. I also like the following description of the situation one of the protagonists finds themselves in;he remembered wondering if she would call him or email him. He wanted it, God, he did, and yet . . . at the same time, whenever he opened his inbox and realized she hadn’t, he breathed a small breath of relief. It’d been confusing as hell .The final quotation I have pulled out is one that probably sums up the book and what the protagonists go through as a whole,The things you could learn about yourself under circumstances you never imagined .Overall, I liked ‘All The Little Raindrops’. I’m not sure that I ever really figured out the relevance of the title to the contents and think that there were other titles that were more clearly linked to the storyline that could have worked better. When giving a star-review, I was on the edge between giving it 4 or 5 stars. In the end, I have to admit that reading that the author lives in Cincinnati, home of the American Football team that I support, helped persuade me to give 5 stars (although I have no idea what team, if any, the author supports).

Great read!

What a suspense! Good twists, it never got boring. The story is well written. Please be aware that there's some content that could be disturbing for some readers.

Fantastic storyline!

S. · January 6, 2024

I finished this audiobook a few days ago and had to sit with it for a while as I wasn't sure how to write up the review. I thought the book was incredibly good, but there are triggering subjects, which I assume many people won't want to read about. So, how does one recommend such a book to the community?I'll start by telling you all the sensitive subject matters are handled with care. No graphic or explicit scenes, but certain subjects are discussed or aluded to. The rest is your imagination and where it takes you. These are the subjects:⚠️ abduction /captivity⚠️ rape⚠️ torture⚠️ talk of human trafficking𝙏𝙃𝙄𝙎 𝙄𝙎 𝘼 𝘿𝘼𝙍𝙆 𝙋𝙎𝙔𝘾𝙃𝙊𝙇𝙊𝙂𝙄𝘾𝘼𝙇 𝙏𝙃𝙍𝙄𝙇𝙇𝙀𝙍But it's also a hauntingly beautiful and intense journey of love and healing in the face of adversity.Mia Sheridan's skillful storytelling blends elements of trauma, suspense, horror, and love seamlessly, and I was captivated from the first paragraph.💙 𝑾𝒆 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒘𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒆. 𝑾𝒆 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓.💙Ultimately, it's not for everyone, but for those of you with a little black thriller heart 🖤 you might just enjoy it as much as I did.
