The Girl in Cabin 13 (Emma Griffin® FBI Mystery)

Description:

Knock...Knock...
When Emma finds a dead body on her porch with her name written on the dead man's hand she uncovers a sinister clue to the mystery that has haunted her since childhood.

FBI agent Emma Griffin is sent undercover to the small sleepy town of Feathered Nest to uncover the truth behind the strings of disappearances that has left the town terrified.
To Emma there is nothing that can lay buried forever. Even though her own childhood has been plagued by deaths and disappearances.
Her mother's death, her father's disappearance, and her boyfriend's disappearance. The only cases that she hasn't solved.
Her obsession with finding out the truth behind her past was what led her to join the FBI.

Now, she must face what may be her biggest case. In Cabin 13 there lies an uneasy feeling. The feeling of her movements being watched.
When a knock on her door revealed a body on her porch and her name written on a piece of paper in the dead man's hand. Suddenly her worlds collide.
With the past still haunting her, Emma must fight past her own demons to stop the body count from rising.
The woods have secrets. And this idyllic town has dark and murderous ones.
Either she reveals them or risk them claiming her too.

In Feathered Nest, nothing is what it seems.
The Girl in Cabin 13 is about to find out that the dead may have secrets of their own.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read

I enjoyed her style of writing. Every chapter end leaves the reader wanting more. It was a quick and easy read written by a great storyteller. I would recommend it without hesitation.

This book was really good. It had me on edge and finding out the horrific ending and reading how everything played out. This was a good crime mystery read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, lots of twists and turns

T.W. · July 7, 2025

I didn't know what to expect when I opened this book. But it was very much a thrill ride. The ending was totally unexpected and the story very well told, well written and the characters just leap off the page. Definitely recommend this one I'd you like a good mystery thriller.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Little Obvious but Good Read

P.C. · August 18, 2023

I started reading this one because there were SO MANY good reviews and I am always up for a thriller mystery. But I just felt like there were too many obvious clues to the identity of the killer. I’m no detective but I do read these types of novels and am always trying to figure them out. Fairly early on, it felt obvious. PLEASE don’t read on if you don’t want to spoil the ending. But…OK Emma is an agent who seems to have a really good sense about people. How is she so easily swayed with Jake immediately? Every other character she seems suspicious of and guarded but she openly trusts this random guy with everything, including driving her home the first night they meet? Weird. And just too many clues, yes, his grandmother has photos without any background because of course it’s her house. How did he know where the fuse box was? That was the super obvious one to me. If Emma is so insightful, why is she so blind and stubborn? She seems to decide on a hypothesis and arranges all facts to fit her version. That’s the opposite of the job right? At some point, I just was embarrassed for her, and cringed at her inability to see what was so obvious. However, it was well written and I liked the back story of her parents. And the dead guy on her doorstep with the tie in to her parents, that was interesting. I am going to keep reading of course. I’ll probably read the whole series. But OH I hope this lead character shows a little more layers and common sense. I want to be on her side, I want to like her. So I am holding out hope, and will keep reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars good mystery

Strong characters - likeable (unfortunately)! Anxious to read more in the series. And looking forward to the movie even though I know how it ends!

5.0 out of 5 stars "The Girl In Cabin 13" by A.J. Rivers is a MUST read!!!

G.C. · January 2, 2021

Rivers blends interesting and believable characters into a gripping story that captivates the reader and leaves them hungry for more. Reading "The Girl In Cabin 13" is like watching a good movie that you don't want to end! Rivers builds in unexpected twists and plots that keeps the pages turning. She brilliantly intertwines FBI/police facts, chilling mystery, great suspense, witty dialog, and even a touch of welcomed romance into a story that is almost impossible to not get involved it. Her subplots and back stories allow the reader to really get to know the characters, which not only feeds the story line, but makes one feel like those characters become a part of your own personal circle of friends. These subplots and backstories continue into her next book "The Girl That Vanished" (review to follow after the read is complete!). Rivers has mastered her craft into an art. She paints scenes that entice and entertain the reader. Her powerful brushstrokes of words and form keep the stories moving and a joy to read! She will leave you wanting to read everything she has written!!Additional Information:The artwork and the title of the book is what originally drew me into her web. They say don't judge a book by its cover but I do. That cabin shown on the front cover made me want to find out what went on there. The rest of her books are designed the same way. The covers even feel good to the touch. The books are also 6" x 9", a bit bigger than some paperbacks, which makes for bigger words and more spacing between sentences, and thus an easy to read book. The pages are made of high quality paper that make the font stand out perfectly. It doesn't have that over crowded, bunched up word feel to it that so many books foster.I am glad to have found the books by A.J. Rivers. I plan to read them all. She has quickly catapulted to the top of my reading list after reading only "The Girl In Cabin 13". I've started on "The Girl That Vanished" and it is just a riveting as the cabin book.Rivers is a literary gift for our time. You will love her style and her interesting stories. You will love her book!!! Thanks A.J. Rivers for sharing your talent. We look forward to reading your all of your work!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Emma Griffin has her hands full

M. · August 9, 2025

Emma Griffin is an FBI agent who was assigned to desk duty for a botched undercover assignment. Finally her boss sends her to Feathered Nest, Virginia. There are a lot of people missing and she has to find out what is going on in this small town. First night there a stranger dies on her front porch. This makes for a visit from the police chief LaRoche. Right away she definitely doesn't like him and makes the hair on her neck stand up. She also meets Jake who is the owner of the town bar. He shows her around town and they quickly become friends. Meanwhile, Emma uncovers quite a bit about the police chief and his secrets. A lot of mysterious things keep happening in town. You have to read this one to find out who did it.

4.0 out of 5 stars I guessed the killer as soon as Jake was introduced

K.C. · June 18, 2025

The author's method of writing gives away the plot immediately. The story is bland and the characters are not well developed. She uses the not necessary characters as stage dressing and does not develope them at all so it is easy to figure out the plot. I know she wrote more books with the same lead character so I hope she learned to develope her characters and make the plot less obvious.

Disappointing as a mystery

A.T. · August 2, 2021

Pretends to be an FBI mystery. It is actually a corny girly story. From someone with well structured sentences but no idea of what an FBI agent thinks or works like. Definitely after a dead person in the first minute of the arrival would not be followed by a ice cream pancake as dinner!!!!

Good read!

Engaging psychological thriller

N.P.S. · July 24, 2021

Emma Griffin is an FBI officer who's had a troubled past and recently a troubled career. As a shot of redemption she's sent to a sleepy little village as undercover in order to find a serial killer who's killed as much as 10 residents. She lives in cabin no 13, hence the title. The villagers look innocent and goofy at first but later she realises everyone holds a secret. The story is narrated in first person. Therefore, you don't get to see much about anyone else apart from the protagonist and a bit about the villian. However, the storytelling is such that you don't feel the need to know about anyone else. Also, the writing keeps you glued to the story and will suck you deep into the protagonist's mind. Recommended!
