fantastic manga take on Norse storytelling
The first thing that strikes me about Vinland is that it's a Japanese take on Viking myth, culture, and story telling, so it's an interesting perspective into two cultures for the price of one. But more importantly, it's great story telling, with compelling and interesting characters, and very good art. It has the fast pacing of manga yet retains the epic grandeur and spectacle of Norse mythology. And along the way, there's interesting explorations of psychological and philosophical ideas (about family, honor, responsibility, ethics, etc.) without getting bogged down or preachy. And it's really well researched as historical fiction, with detailed care. The volume itself is really well put together, with a handsome cover. Looking forward to reading more!
Makoto Yukimura's epic is receiving a masterful edition.
This is a remarkable collection of the first three volumes of Vinland Saga. I'm happy they are going to do this for all of the volumes, too. This new manga is quite big, but why not a big book for a big story with big adventures. Everything about it is top notch quality, from the cover, which is vibrant and detailed with a Nordic symbol, to the sturdiness in the binding of it, and not to mention the really nice print. It being a sizeable book also means you get to see the brilliance of Makoto Yukimura's artwork in full display. Highly recommend.

Coming from buying/reading all berserk deluxes, this blew me away. Kodansha has the same insane quality in their deluxe hardcover. Vinland saga is spectacular, and the art belongs in a museum.

just amazing. If you want to get into manga and you are into more realistic and more in-depth storytelling, Vinlad saga just is the perfect manga; the story is impactful and can get emotional. I also highly recommend collecting the hardcovers from this series, as when you are reading it boosts the reading experience tenfold. The quality of the pages and the extra content really does help you get more immersed in the story. and when you're done with the manga, it just sits perfectly on your shelf , will definitely be buying the rest and continuing with the other volumes
