"Steves is an absolute master at unlocking the hidden gems of the world's greatest cities, towns, and monuments."―USA Today
“Every country-specific travel guidebook from the Rick Steves publishing empire can be counted upon for clear organization, specificity and timeliness."―Society of American Travel Writers
"Pick the best accommodations and restaurants from Rick Steves…and a traveler searching for good values will seldom go wrong or be blindsided."―NBC News
"His guidebooks are approachable, silly, and even subtly provocative in their insistence that Americans show respect for the people and places they are visiting and not the other way around."―The New Yorker
"Travel, to Steves, is not some frivolous luxury—it is an engine for improving humankind, for connecting people and removing their prejudices, for knocking distant cultures together to make unlikely sparks of joy and insight. Given that millions of people have encountered the work of Steves over the last 40 years, on TV or online or in his guidebooks, and that they have carried those lessons to untold other millions of people, it is fair to say that his life’s work has had a real effect on the collective life of our planet."―The New York Times Magazine
"[Rick Steves] laces his guides with short and vivid histories and a scholar's appreciation for Renaissance art yet knows the best place to start an early tapas crawl in Madrid if you have kids. His clear, hand-drawn maps are Pentagon-worthy; his hints about how to go directly to the best stuff at the Uffizi, avoid the crowds at Versailles and save money everywhere are guilt-free."―TIME Magazine
"Steves is a walking, talking European encyclopedia who yearns to inspire Americans to venture 'beyond Orlando.'"―Forbes
“…he’s become the unofficial guide for entire generations of North American travelers, beloved for his earnest attitude and dad jeans."―Outside Magazine

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to carry for travel
This is a very good travel guide to carry around throughout the day while you’re touring Florence. It’s not as comprehensive as some of the thicker travel guides, but it’s small and easy to carry. Good maps, too! It’s a good supplemental guide but I recommend also purchasing something that is more comprehensive and can be left in the hotel each day. This is a quick and easy reference guide.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Information
As always RS books are helpful and full of good information and tips plus a paper map of the destination. The book also suggest key phrases that can be used to help you in and around Florence.
5.0 out of 5 stars Self walking and museums guides + tips
Bought it for a recent trip to Florence.Excellent guide with a lot of tips.Has good suggestions for self walking tours.Includes very good suggestions for how to visit the key museums (uffizi, Opera del Duomo, etc.)
4.0 out of 5 stars Why schlep a “pocket guide”?
The book’s not bad, but it’s nowhere near as good as the excellent “Rick Steve’s Florence and Tuscany”, even if you just want to know about Florence. Forget the “convenience” of a pocket guide. The greater depth of information and background in the unabridged version is a much better read. Then, when you know what you want to see, why schlep a ‘pocket guide’ when you’ve got your smart phone?
5.0 out of 5 stars Don’t travel without it!
All of Rick Steves’s books are incredibly comprehensive and offer great suggestions for hotels, dining, personal tour guides, how to skip the lines at museums and tour sites, and so much more. We have traveled with Steves’s books for years and they are extremely helpful. We buy two for each location and literally rip pertinent pages out of one of the books for specific places while on the road. Don’t leave home without it!
5.0 out of 5 stars Florence and the Renaissance...
The Italian city of Florence was a centerpiece of the European Rennaissance. Much of that flowering of innovation in art, science and architecture is still on display for the enterprising traveler. Travel writer Rick Steves has the details in this Pocket Guide to Florence. It turns out that many of the attractions of Florence are within easy walking distance of its magnificent core of Medieval and Rennaissance buildings. This guide offers practical tips on what to see and when to go. A nice collection of color photographs, maps, and diagrams show the way.As with other Rick Steves guides, read the whole book before committing time and money. There are lots of practical suggestions on when to go, where to stay, where to eat, and how to enjoy it all. Very well recommended to the enterprising traveler.
5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have for anybody traveling to Florence
This is a perfect pocket guide. Perfect size. Easy to access information and thorough. It has different colored sections, which make it easy to flip through and access different items (Food, the Uffizi, Duomo, Activities, Night Life, etc). This makes it perfect to figure out what you want to learn about. It has great maps, to figure out where you are, what notable things are around you, and what is close to what.It has great pocket sized maps, that also show what is important to visit. It's the perfect travel size.I can't recommend this enough.
