The New Yorker

"Travel, to Steves, is not some frivolous luxury—it is an engine for improving humankind, for connecting people and removing their prejudices, for knocking distant cultures together to make unlikely sparks of joy and insight. Given that millions of people have encountered the work of Steves over the last 40 years, on TV or online or in his guidebooks, and that they have carried those lessons to untold other millions of people, it is fair to say that his life’s work has had a real effect on the collective life of our planet."―
The New York Times Magazine

"[Rick Steves] laces his guides with short and vivid histories and a scholar's appreciation for Renaissance art yet knows the best place to start an early tapas crawl in Madrid if you have kids. A great London guide for those visiting the city for the first time, or for the first time in many years. Easy to access, logically laid out, tangible information on when and how to visit even the busiest locations and sights, with specific info on how to get there. I liked the no-nonsense recommendations and honest reviews. A handy map is included, but the Streetsmart London map was a great companion to this. Buy both.

Rick Steves' books and shows are excellent resources for traveling. This is why his books are the only ones I look for just before planning a trip. This is the first time for a couple traveling with us to travel to Europe. I thought that giving them this pocket guide will give them an idea of what to expect. "Pocket" or not, this book has many useful tips and lots of colorful pictures. and even includes a map.I bought a pocket guide for each of the cities we will visit. And although we have been to these cities before, reading this book made us view those cities with fresh eyes. And thus, we have picked a few more places and activities to include on our tours.
