So many of us struggle with insecurity and unworthiness because we take our cues for value from what we see around us. Known helps us redirect our vision to the only place that matters: the Word of God. This book is like God calling us on the phone to remind us who we are in him. I pray many discover the truth in these words. Nona Jones, bestselling author of Success from the Inside Out, head of global faith-based partnerships at Facebook
There are a lot of voices shouting at us about who we are. Known cuts through the noise with the biblical truths about how God sees us. Experience the powerful reality of God’s personal and specific names for you. Read this book, and you’ll find yourself freed and empowered to bless a hurting world. Mark Batterson, New York Times bestselling author of The Circle Maker, lead pastor of National Community Church
In Known, Aubrey Sampson bravely shines a light on both our individual and communal pain. At the same time, she points us to a greater truth: God has specific and powerful names that counter every lie about who we are. What an invitation―to know how God sees us and loves us and to offer a hurting world an identity that can never be shaken. Dr. Anita Phillips, LCSW-C, trauma therapist, host of In the Light podcast
If you ever wanted to explore your identity and family name as a child of God, this is the book to pick up. In such a personal, authentic, vulnerable (yet biblical) way, Aubrey emphatically and comprehensively declares how you are known by God. My prayer as you read Known: Not only will you come to know who God says you to be, but you (as the title says) will come to believe who God says you are―and that, my friends, will change everything, from how you live to how you live sent. Ed Stetzer, executive director of Wheaton College Billy Graham Center
Aubrey’s book could be read slowly over time, but I ended up reading it in one sitting because I just couldn’t get enough. Her words are powerful but always kind and tender. I loved the way she made deep theological truths and stellar exegetical work accessible and relevant to any of us struggling to find our identity in Christ. After two decades of teaching the Bible, I know this resource should be in the hands of any Christian seeking more intimacy with Christ. Kat Armstrong, author of No More Holding Back and The In-Between Place, preacher, cofounder of The Polished Network
There is a cosmic battle being waged for the identity of every one of us. In Known: How Believing Who God Says You Are Changes Everything, my friend Aubrey Sampson does a masterful job exposing the lies and telling us the truth about our true identity in God. Sampson addresses one of the great contemporary questions of our time in an insightful, challenging, and compelling fashion. Read Known for yourself, but then share it with a friend. Dave Ferguson, lead pastor of Community Christian Church, author of B.L.E.S.S.: 5 Everyday Ways to Love Your Neighbor and Change the World
Identity is the pain point of this generation. Many are risking everything to find who they are. The reality is we can’t make an identity, nor can we find one by looking within―it must be given to us by God. But this journey of knowing who we are by God is not just cerebral, it’s one that we have to feel in our bones. It has to make sense to us emotionally. This is why Aubrey’s book is so wonderful and needed. I was deeply moved as I read her words. She takes the truth of who God says we are and doesn’t just put a bow in it. Rather, she takes the reader on a journey that makes us feel all the feels and know what it’s like in our messy world to be Known by the only Voice that matters. David Lomas, pastor at Reality SF, author of The Truest Thing About You
I think every heart on the planet has gotten pretty banged up the past few years, bruised and rubbed raw, buried under layer upon layer of anxieties and insecurities. Then comes the gentle, healing message of Known. Author and pastor Aubrey Sampson invites us to come as we are and reminds us that in our most broken places, we are known and named by God. Catherine McNiel, author of Fearing Bravely, All Shall Be Well, and Long Days of Small Things
This book is beautiful. The writing is beautiful, of course, but even more beautiful is the grace Aubrey Sampson writes about. Most beautiful still is the God of grace at the center of this story. This book will encourage you to rest in Jesus and his goodness. In a time of sorrow and fear, this book steps in to point us to hope: hope in Christ as he sees and loves us. Micah Fries, director of engagement at GlocalNet, director of programs at Multi-Faith Neighbors Network, author of Leveling the Church
“What’s in a name?” So much more than we (or Shakespeare) might realize. With her usual wit and insight, Aubrey Sampson teaches us that our names are a way of being known and that the name God gives us is the most important one of them all. With Aubrey as a guide, you’ll find the courage and freedom to live out of your true self, the one that is known and named by God. Mitchel Lee, lead pastor of Grace Community Church
In an age where you can be known by many and yet truly known by none, our souls long to be seen―flaws and all―and chosen nonetheless. In this raw, honest, and brilliant work, Aubrey Sampson shows us how to shed the false names we’ve assumed for ourselves and rest in the adoption of the Name above all names. I highly recommend this book to anyone who longs to feel completely understood and loved―which is all of us. Davey Blackburn, author, speaker, host of the Nothing Is Wasted podcast
Aubrey Sampson is a wise teacher, a gentle guide into the tender spaces of our stories. Known speaks to our most fundamental longings with transformative hope. May the truths in these pages cause your heart to soar. Ann Voskamp, New York Times bestselling author of The Broken Way and One Thousand Gifts
From the Back Cover
Our identity is a complex tapestry woven with threads of good and true things―and tangled with painful names we’ve spoken over ourselves or that others have branded us with. Some of our names are larger than we want them to be, and others aren’t always obvious.
But God is the only one who gets to name us.
What if, in the place of the negative names in your story, God wants to speak a new name, a healing and freeing name? What if he already has?
What’s at stake is nothing less than how we reflect God in the world, how we treat others, and how we allow others to treat us. It’s time to know who you really are.

First, I am drawn to books that dig into one subject and goes in deep. Also, this was a new author to me, and I like to explore what they bring to the table in their work. So, I was expecting a work that developed the theme of Known and that is what I found! Developed in 3 parts this book explores who we are, whose we are and how those changes everything. I was impressed with the outline, and I found it blessed my socks off! This book met my expectations and then some. The depth of Aubrey Sampson’s spirit and love for the Word of God comes through very strongly. I was brought into her spirit as she passionately developed the idea of being Known by God. Yes, I know that God knows me, He created me! But going about the subject as being known brings it up close, personal, and relevant every day. The names she uses for being known are comforting, familiar and encouraging. But it also ignites a call for action as she develops the idea how being known changes everything in our lives. In the chapter titled “Unveiled”, 2 quotes stood out for me. In her words, “nothing is greater than God can hold” and “suffering leads to a greater unveiling of Jesus image in us”. This quote from the chapter titled “You Are Sent” also touched my heart, “your beingness, your namedness is essential to your beingness.” Knowing who we are, and knowing our God given names enables us to look and become more like Jesus. And when you finish reading this book you are challenged to become more like Jesus in your inner and outer life.I think this book appeals to anyone who wants to explore what it means to be known by God, because you will be able to live a more fulfilling life that reflects the image of God when you understand who you are, whose you are and why that changes everything. I recommend this book to the seekers of God, and to all who seek encouragement and teachings in how their lives can better reflect the image of God in everyday living.
5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and encouraging
In this second garbage fire of a pandemic year, it’s nice to be reminded of who we are, who God is, and who God has called us to be. This book is that reminder. Aubrey writes with such care for her reader and for her story. She writes with wisdom and knowledge of Scripture, but she also writes with a refreshing vulnerability. I found comfort and encouragement in these pages, and I’m eager for other readers to be renewed by Aubrey’s words as well. One of the best parts of this book is the robust reflection and discussion guide in the back. This is a book meant to be read in community. Because I was given the privilege of reading the book before publication date, I haven’t been able to read it with my people yet, but I’m excited to do so now. The weather might finally cool off in Arizona soon, and I look forward to getting together in the cool evenings with some friends to read and reflect on this special book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and timely message
At the heart of so many of our struggles seems to be an understanding of who and whose we really are. In Known, Aubrey Sampson speaks with gentle, wise and caring authority about the truth that in the end, no one gets to name us but the one true God. Her personal experience weaved throughout the book makes you feel like you are reading from a trusted friend and not just a talking head. She leads you into the Scriptures and shows you how exactly we are known and how God lovingly and with the utmost of care has in fact named us--we are not left to the names others might give us, circumstances and traumas might declare over us, but to His for us. I very much recommend this book.
5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful and Powerful
Like refreshing water during a drought, this book soothed my soul. Packed with reminder after reminder of who we are - the names we are called - the fact that we belong, we are loved, we are chosen. With nuggets of truth throughout, Aubrey continually calls forth the beautiful message that we are not invisible to God - we are seen, and we are valued. It shines a light into the shadows of our soul, illuminating beauty because we are Known and named by God. This book is for anyone who struggles with their past, their purpose, their sense of self, or self-doubt at any level. Excellent for solo work or for a group study!
4.0 out of 5 stars new believers
A really essential read for new believers and old believers struggling to comprehend or trust in God's love for you as you are, where you are, in whatever state or circumstances you are.I only give it four stars because it was too simple for me, personally. There's nothing challenging in this book. But if you're not looking for challenge and are needing encouragement and validation, this is definitely your kind of book. You will find that in here.
5.0 out of 5 stars Do you know who your Father says you are?
So often I struggle with outside voices having influence in how I see myself and where I look to for my worth, or validation. Known helped recenter that for me. It awakened my soul to the names my Father in heaven calls me. I am loved, I am valued, I serve a purpose, and I was created on purpose. I am his beloved creation, a daughter of the most high, and knowing your true worth and identity makes a huge difference in how you hold yourself, and how you live.Highly recommend this book. After the last 18 months we have been living we can all use the reminder of who our Daddy says we are.Nicole W.

Her words help tear down the false labels and lies that we have taken on and make room for the names that God says are ours. Every chapter is profound yet practical and this is a book that I will 100% be gifting to dear friends. In these pages I encountered the beautiful names that God has for me in this season. I was reminded that He is the God who sees me. I cannot recommend it enough.
