Description:
A New York Times Best Board Book for Babies
A Bank Street College of Education Best Board Book
The perfect gift for newborn babies! A fold-out, high-contrast board book designed to support baby’s development during tummy time.
This engaging board book introduces new vocabulary and encourages parents to read playfully with intonation, trumpeting loudly like an elephant or wagging the puppy's tail excitedly. It combines bold black-and-white patterns with first words and baby-friendly images to stimulate visual development and early language skills.
This book will keep babies' brains busy, while their muscles are hard at work. The high-contrast images on one side are mesmerizing because, although young babies' vision is blurry, they can see bold patterns with sharp light-dark contrast and saturated color.
Babies are also hard-wired to recognize faces, so there are baby photos on the other side to delight your baby, and an embedded mirror―because babies love looking at themselves! The book can be spread out in front of them, or read like a book so you can enjoy reading time together.
Key Features:
- Developmental Focus: Encourages visual tracking, neck and core strength, and early word recognition.
- Interactive Format: Accordion-style fold-out design stands upright for hands-free tummy time play.
- Bonding Moments: Promotes caregiver-baby interaction through shared reading and mirrored play.
- First Words Fun: Introduces foundational vocabulary in a format babies love to explore.
Whether used during tummy time or lap time, Tummy Time! offers a joyful, developmentally rich experience for babies and their grown-ups.
Tummy Time! is part of the award-winning Tummy Time! series, named Best Board Books by Bank Street College of Education.

A New York Times Best Board Book for Babies
A Bank Street College of Education Best Board Book of 2023
"Red Comet Press isn't playing around. Oh, you can have your simple accordion books all you want. This one's cranking up the volume to 11. Basically, it going all all ALL in on baby brain development. And it isn't just content to give you stuff for babies either. Right at the start you get this kick-ass statement to parents specifying PRECISELY how much babies can or cannot see developmentally. After that it shows thumbnails of all the images inside and asks, "Which image will excite your baby the most?" A worthy question since not only are we talking about high-contrast illustrations but also baby faces and even a mirror. Some of the pictures even give the babies little instruction that parents can do with them. "Happy Baby Touch your nose, " reads one. Boop! I'm always shocked we don't see more books like this one on the market. A must for any new parent." –Betsy Bird, School Library Journal/Fuse#8
“This cheerful, double-sided foldout book ― designed to prop up in front of a baby during mat play ― features photos of other wee ones happily engaged in simple activities (kicking their legs, tickling their toes), alongside high-contrast shapes.”–New York Times Book Review “Best Board Books for Babies”
"Designed for the very, very young, this accordion-fold offering is truly the Swiss Army Knife of board books. One side features diverse baby-face photos, a mirrored page, and a simple, baby-friendly text. The other side is wordless, with simple graphic images in black, white and bold primary colors. The whole project folds up neatly with a tabbed closer."–The Horn Book
"This interactive board book makes an excellent choice for early reading with baby. . .The book folds back up easily and tucks into a nice little pocket which makes this great for tucking in the diaper bag and pulling out while waiting at the doctor’s office, while in church, or waiting in the grocery check out.” –Sincerely Stacie
"This is such a great book to gift to new parents!" –BooksAndBitesRoc
