2 Weeks To A Younger Brain: An Innovative Program for a Better Memory and Sharper Mind

Description:

Dr. Gary Small and Gigi Vorgan’s 2 Weeks To A Younger Brain translates the latest brain science into practical strategies and exercises that yield quick and long- lasting benefits.

Misplacing your keys, forgetting someone’s name at a party, or coming home from the market without the most important item — these are just some of the many common memory slips we all experience from time to time. But such cognitive lapses don’t just plague middle-agers and seniors; UCLA studies indicate that forgetfulness begins much earlier in life. Scientists can detect subtle changes in the brain that coincide with mental decline by the time we reach age 40, and our findings show that people as young as 20 already have memory problems.

2 Weeks to a Younger Brain will not only improve your memory, but will also strengthen your physical health by reducing your risk for diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. The latest research confirms that there is a lot we can do to boost our memory and keep our brains young. After three decades of helping thousands of patients improve their memory and mental acuity, Dr. Small and Gorgan are convinced that our daily lifestyle habits are directly linked to our brain health. This book will show that it only takes two weeks to form new habits that bolster cognitive abilities and help stave off, or even reverse, brain aging.

If you commit only 14 days to 2 Weeks To A Younger Brain, you will reap noticeable results. During that brief period, you will have learned the secrets to keeping your brain young for the rest of your life.

To be fair, the type of information this book offers is the focus of intense, ongoing research, and is thus likely to be outdated quickly. Anyone with good research skills can find up-to-date information for free online in major science publications, major university websites, and at the NIH. Some of the brain teasers included are ridiculously easy, so, if you read a lot, do puzzles, watch math videos, play chess, or love Raymond Smullyan, you don't need these suggestions. The value of this book is in highlighting some of the important findings of the last twenty years in a well-organized way. This gives you a good starting point for finding updated information on the key topics bearing on brain health on your own.As an example of something that may already be outdated, I believe the advice to eat many small meals during the day has been called into question. It may be something that some people need to do, but it may not be optimal for most. All in all, this book was not what I hoped it would be. 2 1/2 stars

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly!!!

2 Weeks To A Younger BrainThe book has really good, effective and helpful advises and tricks to enhance memory and avoid dementia in future. The writers have also explained easy to perform, both physical and mental exercises. The book is not too descriptive and long, it makes an interesting read, by starting off right away with fun filled mental exercises of word games and puzzles. That said, however, everything felt fine until I reached the section on medicines like Statins, Namenda, Aricept etc. Here I started having serious doubts, as to which side of the fence the good doctor is. By now it is a well known fact that, allopathic medicines, for treating mental illness, have proved to be not only useless but also have found to contribute to various health complications and brain damage sooner than later. The latest science has been, of late, vociferously advising all to keep away from chemicals and allopathic medicines and here the writers have written that popular medicines for Alzheimer’s and other related cognitive disorders, such as Aricept (donepezil), Exelon (rivastigmine), and Razadyne (galantamine) help and benefit the patients by improving memory and thinking besides lowering the levels of agitation and improve symptoms of depression. So, as a reader, if you skip the medicine part and concentrate on non invasive methods to improve brain health, this book is GOOD.
