Frommer's London (Complete Guide)

Description:

This is London advice the way a friend would give it to you: fiercely opinionated, funny, and brimming not only with suggestions about what to see and do, but also what’s not worth your time. Whether you want to see Big Ben or the Harry Potter studios, Trafalgar Square or the V&A, London is a city with an overwhelming number of attractions, lodgings, restaurants, museums, and shops.

Author Jason Cochran is the guide you want to have a pint with, bringing culture and history to life with wit and plain talk―it feels like he’s right there with you. Whether your budget is large or tight, you’ll see London like a local―something many guides claim but none do as well as this one.

Cochran was awarded “Best Guidebook of the Year” by the Society of American Travel Writers for a previous edition of this guide.

Frommer’s London contains:

  • Dozens of full color photos throughout the book

  • Tube stops for every listing to help you navigate ancient streets quickly, plus a comprehensive section on strategies for the Underground

  • Brilliant walking tours spanning the city, with maps

  • What’s free, what’s good for kids, what’s authentic, what’s new

  • Area maps marked with attractions, restaurants, and hotels, plus a London Tube map

  • Interior maps of Westminster Abbey, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London, and the British Museum

  • Smart itineraries, including for families and short stays

  • Newly expanded attractions recommendations

  • Insightful tips for navigating London’s customs and culture

  • Smart reviews of attractions, nightlife, hotels, restaurants and shops in all price ranges using the Frommer’s star rating system

5.0 out of 5 stars VG Guidebook with Excellent Map

K. · June 16, 2025

We looked at several guidebooks and picked the right one. Very informative and concise. It contains an excellent foldout map that was easy to read which we used for logistical planning each day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great addition to online planning and good to have a physical guidebook

K.L. · July 14, 2025

I spent a ton of time on Tripadvisor, Rick Steves forums, and Facebook London groups to plan our recent trip, but there's something about a paper travel guide that still fills a need. With all of the information I had from online sources, I still was having a hard time organizing and prioritizing, and the guidebook helped me do that.

4.0 out of 5 stars Elizabeth Line not shown on one map and not labelled on the other

C.J.W.J. · December 22, 2024

The travel guide itself is excellent. However, the new Elizabeth Line is omitted from the rail transportation map inside the front cover, and it is not labelled on the large, removable map that comes with the book.On the otherwise good removable map, the Elizabeth Line is shown if you know where to look and look carefully. It took me a couple weeks to notice it. By comparison, each of the other rail lines are clearly labelled in multiple places. The Elizabeth Line has 41 stations and runs east-west across all of central London. This line is referred to in writing throughout the travel guide. This is probably the most used public transportation rail line in the UK. In 2023 it carried one-seventh of ALL trips by rail. It should therefore be included on the rail map on the inside of the book's front cover and should be clearly labelled on the pull-out map.

5.0 out of 5 stars Frommer should do more like these for top European cities.

M.H. · January 21, 2025

I thought this was an incredible book! I've been an Anglophile for over 50 years and I'm grateful to be able to take this sized book with me around London this year. I also have the Frommer's Rome, Florence and Venice book which I will also use in 2025. I would like to know if there are other Frommer's pocket size books for Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Munich, Prague, Vienna, Munich & Milan. If there was I'd buy them all tomorrow. Thank you.
