5.0 out of 5 stars Must Read
Amazing short read with very solid philosophy
5.0 out of 5 stars A must read to understand our modern day political problems
Frederic Bastiat wrote before and after the second French Revolution of 1848. This book was first published two years later in 1850 in pamphlet format and reads like it was written in 2024. It's a book that will be relevant another century from now because it explains human nature and what happens to our government when our natural rights are trampled or plundered as he put it. He talks a lot about "legal" plunder and how people eventually come to accept it as normal but it is anything but. He tried in vain to convince his fellow countrymen not to go down the road of socialism because it would eventually lead to communism with destruction of human rights in its wake. This writing explain a lot of things that is happening to our country and you will be surprised to see how similar a path we are taking today. Is it too late to save our Republic?
5.0 out of 5 stars Most respectful understanding why we need law
Living on this earth with so many different people who have different views of law, this small book, "The Law," breaks down a clear understanding the necessity to respect laws, why we should apply them for discipline, and to see the final outcome is to improve our lives and reasonings to accept that we all have to abide by the same laws for our own maturity and to enrich our souls, and better our communities. I also find that "The Law" correlates closely to holy biblical scriptures, from which I foremost seek truths re laws and commandments. This is a worthwhile book, “The Law” (75 pages) to purchase and the words of wisdom that are good for the mind and soul (good conversation to share).
5.0 out of 5 stars Socialism in the French Revolution is exactly what we have today in America.
So simple to read and understand the threat of socialism and communism we see today in the US is so clearly explained by Bastiat in 1848. The "progressives " feel superior to the rest of just like the elite felt so long ago. He explained that slavery in America could be a fatal flaw to perhaps or will ruin the Union......written in 1850. We see racism being used to day to divide a population. It is 75 pages long and if you have not read it ,it is your loss. I bet this could be a book banned in Harvard. The laws from the legistlators could do the opposite of what laws were intended to do. Protecting our liberty and property is what the law is supposed to do so how do we explain the state of NY taking the liberty and property from Donald Trump. Perverting the law is clear here.....read this book.
5.0 out of 5 stars History
Needed for a history course...arrived quickly and in great condition!
5.0 out of 5 stars Best book ever written on the crossroads of politics and economics
When someone knows their subject well they speak in a language that only others in their field can understand. When someone is truly a master he can explain complicated concepts in simple language that anyone can understand. That is what is so great about F. Bastiat. He is truly a master of economics and the language to explain it.This book is the most dangerous book ever written for tyrants, bureaucrats and thieves. He, in the simplest language imaginable, explains why economic freedom is best for everyone outside of the above mentioned individuals. He wrote at a time when socialism was on the rise and in the second part of the book he systematically obliterates every one of their arguments. This book is a must read for everyone who loves their freedom.
4.0 out of 5 stars required reading
Very good book. Hard to read and understand. You will need a dictionary. Should be required reading for law and political science majors
5.0 out of 5 stars Should be required reading for everyone
This text is one of the greatest short works on human liberty and the proper role of government that's ever been written. Frederic Bastiat was truly a genius and all of his writings deserve attention.I first read "The Law" in college after hearing Congressman Dr. Ron Paul recommend it, and it blew my mind. I felt like standing up and applauding over and over as I read it. It set me on a course of studying the freedom philosophy in law, history, religion, economics, and political science that I've been on ever since. You can find this work online, of course, but nothing beats having a real book in your hand (and I say this as a person with a massive ebook library and multiple e-reader devices). The book itself is of a fine quality, easily readable, and a perfect fit for any liberty lover's book collection. The text itself features notes from the translator explaining references to the politics of Bastiat's day which would be obscure to the modern reader.Buy this book and read it. If you've read it before, read it again. Give copies to your friends and relatives, and especially to intellectually curious teenagers or college students in your life. As societies around the world continue down the path toward despotism and tyranny, it becomes ever more vital that the ideas expressed in this book be understood and defended by those who recognise the necessity of human liberty for the flourishing of humanity.
How to preserve our personal and economic liberty
The book arrived promptly, as described or better, at a competitive price. I'd buy from this seller again. Bastiat's political-economic philosophical view is worth a visit and pondering, it helps explain how we lose our personal and economic liberty -- two sides of the same coin -- and how we can preserve them.
Philosophisch juristisches Werk
Sehr gut
A timeless classic
If you value your freedom as an individual this pamphlet is for you: given how our Western societies have degraded this century this book offers a timely reminder that unless we stop being sheep and start taking responsibility for our actions (especially at the voting booth) we are doomed to a life of servitude.
The Law
A great book showing a view of law and government
A must read- Timeless
Everyone should read this. Timeless.Written at the end of the IX century and still happening now.
