Everyday Ayurveda Cooking for a Calm, Clear Mind: 100 Simple Sattvic Recipes

Description:

Eat your way to increased energy, balanced emotions, and an overall state of calm and relaxation.

In Ayurvedic medicine there are said to be three main energies that affect our mind:

   •
sattva, the state of contentment and calm;

   •
rajas, the state of reactivity and excitability; and

   •
tamas, the dull, slow, and stagnant state of mind.

The good news is that there are direct ways of bringing these states into balance through what we eat. The recipes in this book are simple, seasonal, and delicious, while bringing the traditional foods of Ayurveda into the modern kitchen.
Everyday Ayurveda Cooking for a Calm, Clear Mind uncovers the true potential of food to heal not only our bodies, but our minds too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious, Easy, Healing Ayurvedic Recipes and So Much More!

L. · August 13, 2019

I received this beautiful gift for Christmas and I have wanted to write a review for some time. Author Kate O'Donnell has put together much more than a delicious cookbook. I have learned so much and am much more intune with my body thanks to her knowledge of ayurveda that she shares. Over this last year I have incorporated into my life many of her suggestions. I feel lighter, happier more balanced. I have always eaten healthy but still had some significant, nagging health issues not knowing what more could I do. Well just at the perfect time I ran across this book. Finally, after many years, this is what I needed. A cookbook that I received at the same time "Eat feel fresh" by Sahara Rose Ketabi is also filled with Ayurvedic recipes and information. I have found these two books compliment each other. If you are interested in ayurveda I can't recommend enough these two books. And they are beautiful as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is changing my relationship with my mind, body, spirit and food!

This book is changing my relationship with my mind, body, spirit and food! I fell in love with Kate's first book but this one seals the deal. Kate O'Donnell is brilliant and I'd invite her in my home any day...for one of her meals ;) She offers a simple, yet informative and intuitive way to understand, embrace and take action to create a soothing relationship with food...soothing for you mind, body and spirit. I will cherish this book for many, many years and share it with others. I know she may not want to hear it...but I can't wait until her next cookbook! Thank you for sharing your gifts with the world Kate!

5.0 out of 5 stars A true treasure and excellent cookbook

B. · October 10, 2019

This is a wonderful cookbook with a perfect blend of teaching and recipes. She writes about Ayurvedic principles in a way that is supportive, not preachy or dogmatic, but encouraging and doable. The recipes are delicious and easy to make; even my non-ayurvedically inclined family in joins them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Food and the Mind

C.I.T. · March 28, 2018

I'd forgotten that I had ordered Kate's book and so it was like Christmas when it arrived in my mailbox. I loved Kate's first book, but have to admit that I have fallen even more in love with this new book already. I'm devouring it. I LOVE the Ayurvedic perspectives on food and the mind put in such a useful and easy format for both those of us who are practitioners as well as laymen seeking healthy food choices to support the mind. I find this especially useful in this age of wild minds, complicated and unhealthy diets and trends, and the deep disconnection from our food. Kate keeps it simple, straightforward, and understandable. The recipes and format is uncomplicated and easy to use. Thank you Kate for another amazing book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, with less coconut oil

K.S. · May 31, 2021

The messages at the beginning of the book are very helpful, and some of the recipes that I've made thus far are good, except for the "baked" dessert-type recipes that call for coconut oil. The oil dominates every other taste in the dish. I still recommend it, however.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful recipes

Beautiful cookbook. Lots of great info. Delicious recipes. Would make a lovely gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this book!

P.D. · October 5, 2018

I just bought the Kindle version of this book and am delighted to find it full of fairly simple recipes that don’t use too many ingredients. The explanation of the Ayurvedic basis on which the author has arranged the recipes is also very clear. I know I will be cooking from this book in the months to come and recommend it for others who are interested in plant based eating and Ayurvedic theory.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cannot recommend highly enough

L. · October 18, 2018

If in doubt, or even if you're not really thinking about getting this at all, get this book. It's the most usable, simple and most importantly tremendously wise modern Ayurvedic book I've come across to date (in addition to the next book about the Gunas) and has been an incredibly helpful tool in understanding and applying Ayurvedic health principles into my life. I've gotten this for so many family members and recommended it to friends. A pleasureable, inspiring and beautiful book about about how to put Ayurvedic principles into practice. I know my health has benefited from this in many ways
