That's Not Your Mommy Anymore: A Zombie Tale

Description:

From the founder of the Zombie Research Society comes a long-awaited, helpful children's book that teaches kids just what to do if mommy suddenly becomes a member of the undead.

"If she doesn’t seem like she did before, maybe that’s not your mommy anymore. And when this happens, you must go! Here is how you’re sure to know. . ."

In the ongoing effort to warn an unprepared world of the rising danger from zombie attacks, one vulnerable group has been left out — small children.
That's Not Your Mommy Anymore offers social workers, counselors, and educators a helpful new tool to communicate with hard-to-reach at-risk youth. This inviting and entertaining story helps early readers understand for themselves that a mom who has fresh brain casserole in the oven instead of her usual meatloaf is probably not their mommy anymore.

This utterly twisted and incredibly funny take on the classic children’s book genre tells an entertaining story in rhyming text even as it teaches other telltale signs that mom has been bitten by a zombie! Rabid zombie fans will be highly entertained by this hilarious parody that adult readers are sure to love as much as the real children books they enjoyed as kids.

From the Back Cover

When Matt Mogk was a little kid he suspected his mom might be a zombie. Turns out she wasn't, but that experience led him to start the Zombie Research Society, and become a leading global authority on all things undead.

Through his work Matt knows that there will be tens of millions of zombie moms in the coming pandemic, and so he's dedicated his life and this little book to helping people of all ages better prepare for the day their moms try to eat them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best apocalypse ever.

Witty, unique, and sharply illustrated--I emphatically recommend buying That's Not Your Mommy Anymore. I think it's often difficult to find illustrated books where images and prose are in harmony; however this book is exceptional in that capacity. The writing is hysterical. It's a tantalizing rhyme scheme that can serve to amuse young readers but also allow for a clever negotiation between horror and humor (think "Shawn of the Dead"). It would be a page turner, but Aja Wells' artwork is remarkably eye-catching. Her images are vibrant--even her illustrations of the undead are so full of life (and I mean that as the highest compliment).Wells' mastery of expression (the boy's dog: hysterical) and Mogk's brilliant text make a fantastic duo and have created a fun, smart, memorable book that had me laughing from the beginning to the absolutely brilliant end page.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun for the whole family

K.a.C.P. · March 14, 2012

I have 6 kids, ages 1 year through 10. The one year old really has no opinion on the book, the other 5 love it. It is the perfect length to get the message across and be fun. Any longer, the gag would fail. None of my kids were really concerned about either parent really turning into a zombie (despite my best efforts to convince them it really could happen). I imagine if a child really was, a simple, "zombies aren't real, but if there was an emergency and Mommy or Daddy couldn't help you..." discussion would solve any issues. If you are looking to talk to your kids about emergency preparedness, responsibility or anything like that, this book could be a fun jumping off point.Fun book, my kids love it. It is their second favorite, right after "Tomatoes from Mars," and like that book, this one is not an annoying pain to read to them over and over. It is in our "bed time stories" stack now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gift loved by 2, 7, and 25 year olds

R. · February 19, 2012

This shipped to family an ocean away, so I only read what's available in the "Look Inside" preview. The seven year old hated reading like nothing else on this planet, but after an infusion of monster, zombie, garden*, and ninja books, he now reads this to the 2 year old voluntarily. Hooray! I smell the sweet zombie stench of success! It's an easy read, but having to read the ninja books and Diary of a Wimpy Kid involuntarily gave him the courage to read this one without being forced. The 25 year old loves the inappropriate hilarity of the subject matter, and the two year old just isn't picky. She prefers books with ducks, but it's so novel to have the 7yo read to her that she sits through it just fine, and giggles at mostly the right spots.*the kid has a sweet garden all of his own. What, you can't like ninjas, zombies, AND gardens?

4.0 out of 5 stars Zombie

I truly enjoyed this little book. My youngest would have loved it when they were much younger, but it is not for everyone. If you like zombies and teach your children freely then give this a read.

5.0 out of 5 stars cute and informative for a young child

J.S. · March 6, 2013

This is a cute book. My husband and I wanted to get some thing for our 3 year old son that teaches him something's about zombies and keeps him entertained while doing so. The illustrations in this book are amazing. The rhymes are cute. I'm so glad there is a children's book about zombies. Then after m oldest son is done with the book. His little brother can read it. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Survival made easy!

I have yet to find a guide that deals with the pending zombie apocalypse in such a simple and straightforward manner. It may have been written as a kids book, but I found it to be a basic yet complete set of instructions for anyone during the Zday plague. At the beginning we learn that the threat may come at any moment, no matter how idyllic our daily life may be. The event may even be caused by the very things we use to enhance our lives. Our young hero then teaches us even in times of uncertainty and confusion to remain calm and observant. At the basis of the book are the tenets of situational awareness and preparedness. Furthermore we learn the value of security, information, and team work.Examples of gear and supplies are provided, as well as tips on how and when to travel. Safe destination options are also addressed.By the end, even the foundations for rebuilding a healthy and vibrant civilization are illustrated. Finally, the truth is that in order to survive such a catastrophe, you must first survive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Zombies ate my wallet

C.S.L. · May 28, 2011

Great concept and funny execution of a mock childrens book, rhymes and all that both my 7 and 8 year old found funny. Except when it arrived I could swear that Zombies ate the cover and binding, because it is 14 sheets of glossy paper folded in half and held together by two staples. If I saw this at a book store I would hesitate to plunk down $10, let alone the $8 on Bolo. These boys are laughing all the way to the bank.update 5/29:Got a comment from the author,wow-see comments, was very apologetic and sez they are ungrading the paper and binding, so that bumps this review up a notch to 5 for sincerity. But keeping the title cuz it's funny, in my humble opinion.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheaply made

R. · August 6, 2013

Flimsy paperback for hardcover price and two minutes worth of story - good for a small laugh for a kid the right age or just confusion for a kid the wrong age -- but only disappointment for adults expecting something substantial. This has been popularized as a novelty item, and should be not be considered worth more than a gag gift. Unfortunately it costs the same as a real book that is made to last a lot longer....

Zombie Mommy!

B. · July 25, 2012

I'm often playing "zombie" with my 7 year old daughter, and she loves pretending to be scared of me and running away while I try to eat her brains. So when I found this book, I KNEW that I HAD TO get it. It's hilarious in its rhyming poetry form, and the pictures are lovely and vibrant. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it's too short! Loved it all the way.

Great book

This is a really good fun book. Well written with colourful illustrations. A perfect gift for children and grown ups alike.

Thats not your mommy anymore

b. · November 28, 2011

I thought this book would have been good for my 7 year old son who is into zombies, but it was terrible. Not funny, not good, terrible. I wouldn't even give this book away.

Best for braver 5 year olds

K.&.K. · April 27, 2012

This book was ... interesting. Our almost 5 yr old was so scared we could barely finish. He enjoyed the thrill. But, do not expect a Disney ending on this tale.
