I purchased this book to help me gain an understanding of Alzheimers as both of my parents are in various stages of the condition.It is very interesting and an easy read. The book provides insights and suggestions in plain english.I have read it in a slow and methodical approach vs chapter. Easier for me to digest personally as I compare to my real life experience with my parents.

Mostly old info, if you’ve done any previous reading on Alzheimer’s. However, in all fairness, the information seems to be changing rapidly.

Diese Artikelsammlung bringt die Leser auf den neusten Stand des Wissens betreffend Alzheimer. Es ist keine Lektüre für Menschen, die eine Therapie des entwickelten Alzheimer suchen. Diese gibt es im Moment nicht! Ich beschäftige mich als Allgemeinmediziner schon lange schwerpunktmäßig mit diesem Problem und ich denke dass dieses Heft einen sehr guten und ausgewogenen Überblick darüber vermittelt wie komplex und schwierig das Problems Alzheimer ist.Diese Artikelsammlung spiegelt auch die Vielfalt der Herangehensweisen bezüglich Erforschung der Ursachen und "Entdeckung" einer Therapie wieder. Denn spätestens nach dem Buch von Dr. Dale Bredesen, "Die Alzheimer Revolution" (The End of Alzheimer's) und "The Memory Cure" von Daniel Amen MD ist klar dass nur ein Vorgehen bestehend aus sehr vielen therapeutischen Bausteine die Entwicklung dieser chronischen Erkrankung vermeiden kann. Die beiden Autoren zeigen auch, dass eine Alzheimer Erkrankung im frühen Stadium der kognitiven Beeinträchtigung umgekehrt (in Richtung Gesundung) werden kann. Alzheimer beginnt 10-15 Jahren bevor die ersten Symptome sichtbar werden darum ist das Wissen um die verursachenden Faktoren so immens wichtig.Wenn man die Bücher von Bredesen und Amen liest wird es klar dass die "one-bulet-therapie" einfach nicht geben kann. Das Vorbeugen der Erkrankung verlangt viel Wissen seitens der ärztlichen Person und viel Disziplin und Geduld seitens der Person die Alzheimer vorbeugen möchte. Und weil aber das Vorbeugeprogramm auf teuere Medikamete verzichtet (weil sie wirkungslos sind), wird die Prävention von Alzheimer sich nicht durchsetzen. Dies ist allerdings meine subjektive Meinung. Bedauerlicherweise werden diese beiden Autoren, die sehr solide medizinische Forschung betreiben, nicht erwähnt - aber nobody is perfect.Darum auch die verdienten 5 Sterne für das Zusammenbringen von unterschiedlichen Standpunkten, Forschungsansätze und Ergebnissen. Und ich hoffe, dass Sie, wenn Sie schon das hier lesen, sich über die oben genannten Bücher informieren.
