Praise for Resist: A Story of D-Day:
"Gratz makes the danger of being a civilian caught between occupiers and invaders on that fateful night (or any other time) breathlessly palpable... Tense, nonstop adventure in a historic setting." -- Kirkus Reviews
Praise for Heroes: A Novel of Pearl Harbor:

Praise for Allies:
* "A tour de force of war fiction." --Booklist, starred review

5.0 out of 5 stars Love
Daughter loves to read - she really likes this author
5.0 out of 5 stars Action Packed Prequel to Allies
This book can be read before or after Allies, my favorite Gratz book. He created a novella about a young girl and her mother who were part of the French Resistance, characters that also appear in Allies. There really aren’t a lot of middle grade novels specifically about the French Resistance and the risks French citizens took to derail the Nazis during the occupation. I highly recommend this book for middle level readers, especially if you have a reluctant reader. It is short but full of engaging action.
4.0 out of 5 stars Resist is a very short but intense story
Samira Zidane is a young Algerian girl whose father was killed by Nazis. She and her mother, Kenya help the French resistance in Normandy, until her mother is captured by the Germans. Samira finds a dog left behind by another captured family. Together, Samira and the dog she calls Cyrano travel toward Bayeux, where prisoners are usually housed. She comes across paratrooper dummies and a glider plane full of English soldiers. The D-day invasion has begun. Will Samira arrive in time to save her mother and the other prisoners? Will Cyrano find his family? This was a very short story, but it brings light to the way the allies invaded on D-day. Samira was very brave and enterprising. I mostly read this book as a required pick for the Spring Kindle Challenge. Most books on the accepted list are quite expensive, so I chose this one and enjoyed a quick read.
5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful
Telling a story is an art. Telling a story of a dark time with a sense of urgency and hope at the same time in a way that younger audiences can comprehend is a gift.
5.0 out of 5 stars story filled with heartache and hope
I loved this book it teaches you that even in the face of horrible experiences there is hope and good people and pets we just have to be willing to look sometimes in the most unlikely of places.
3.0 out of 5 stars This is a short story, NOT a full-sized book
TL:DR—This is a promotional short story written for Scholastic. It is not a full book and not worth the price unless you are a collector.Judging by the high prices online, I assumed it was a standard book similar to the other Alan Gratz books or perhaps even a longer one. Instead it is a short backstory for one of the characters in another story. The high price is due to its rarity since it’s no longer in print rather than its content. I should’ve paid attention to the page count.
