I understand that Greek Art contains naked pictures as well as their sculptures but to include these types of pictures for a children's book is not okay. The kids were asked to bring in a book they could share with the class about famous people from their heritage. What better person to choose from Greece, right?? I mean Greece has famous philosophers but I doubt that would be as interesting as King Leonidas to a 5th grader! =)Thankfully I looked through the book before it was read in front of the class and the pictures were shown to the classmates. Maybe some schools and parents would be okay with it but some of these pictures are a bit much.Especially when some of the pictures are sexual with naked men "celebrating" with each other. Was it necessary to show both the front and back of naked Spartan Warriors? Was it necessary to have the young men wrestle naked? Was it necessary to show topless girls? Naked boys with one naked boy on his hands and knees? Again, I understand that's how it probably was back then but please update the pictures or change the grade level. To call it Children's Ancient History is not appropriate. What a terrible way to end the book with the picture above. Why does everything have to be sexualized for kids??

As an adult, I really enjoyed this book, but I do think it is a bit complex for a lot of grade 5 kids. The book feels a bit disjointed and jumps around a lot. The glossary isn’t very good. There is a ton of historical information in this book, which is fascinating, but it is not written in a way good for kids.The book itself is tightly bound. The pages are thin paper that tends to be a bit wrinkly. The cover is hard and smooth. The pictures throughout the book are decent, though some may not be appropriate for grade 5 kids.Overall, this is a decent book, but maybe suited better for older kids.

It is an astonishing fact this king’s name was remembered for such a long time even after he lost in the crucial battle. The culture to respect not only the result itself but also the process is impressive to me.
