4.0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER Great read by Mr. Born !
23 - 4 STARSDESCRIPTION : A superstitious killer targeting young women in every borough of New York City. Aboard a police boat on the Hudson River, Detective Michael Bennett casts a wary eye into the cold, rough water. NYPD is searching for a murder victim—a young college student. They find her tossed in the dark waves, dressed for a night out in a sparkly black gown. The gruesome sight fills Bennett with the dread only a father could fathom. As the obsessive killer extends his spree, a pattern emerges. One that Bennett’s eldest daughter fits to a disturbing degree. Now NYPD’s top detective must lure the murderer into the light of day before the next deadly strike lands closer to home than Bennett could ever bear—as a parent, or as a protector.REVIEW :Previous books by this author were the Michael Bennett and Alex Cross Series and any books written with JD Barker. They’ve all received 4/5 stars. I’ve stopped reading any other James Patterson books since he calls the people who write for him “contributors” and will not call them co-authors. Just irks me. I’ve been reading the Michael Bennett series since 2007. The first 10 years were written by Michael Ledwidge and then James O. Born took over in 2017. I like them all.I always like the importance of his family in every book and that continues in this book. Lots of family interaction in this one. Enjoyed the twists & turns in this solid murder mystery. Love seeing Detective Bennett solve cases and still have so much involvement with his family. Another great read by Mr. Born.
5.0 out of 5 stars Michael Bennett Returns
This is the latest in the Michael Bennett series. It can be read as a stand alone. However, I like the characters and recommend the entire series. Michael Bennett is an NYPD homicide Detective assigned to Manhattan. He is a widower with ten adopted children and a trust fund that allows them to live on Manhattan’s upper west side.. The very diverse family also includes Mary Catherine, an Irish caregiver who developed quite nicely into Bennett’s spouse. The books are ostensibly police procedurals. As a retired prosecutor, I generally look for authenticity in this genre. This series isn’t remotely realistic in its portrayal of police investigations. But, in this case, it doesn’t matter. My very favorable review comes from the characterizations, the family dynamic, the fast pace, and the Patterson/Born short chapters frequently ending with cliffhangers.Bennett and a very tough female BronxDetective are assigned to investigate the murder of a college aged woman. Soon, other murders follow. There is some misdirection. Bennett and his partner follow some fruitless investigative paths. There is an exciting lost witness/victim chase sequence. The climactic confrontation is well done. And add sub plots involving two of Bennett’s sons being victimized by bullies and one daughter’s high school basketball adventures. This is an enjoyable fast read. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with an enjoyable, exciting fast read. I recommend the book and the series.BTW, the co-author James O. Born has written some excellent police procedurals that are well worth a look.
5.0 out of 5 stars geat book
great book couldnt put it down.need more michael bennet, hes like alex cross read all of them
5.0 out of 5 stars Great story
This has a lot of what the police go through to do their jobs the right way. It is fast paced and lots of thrills. Every chapter keeps you asking for more. But everything is answered with satisfaction. Fantastic book. Recommended.
3.0 out of 5 stars Wrong title and promotion; The published book was not as advertised
This Michael Bennett story is definitely different than all the others. The change is probably due to the change in the co-author. Detective Bennett is now much more of a team member, has a partner and actually follows some rules. The story is interesting but too much of this story is spent on leads that go nowhere. Although this book likely better reflects how police actually work, it slows down the story. Character development also suffers; the reader has a better understanding of several characters/suspects who are not the killer than they do of the killer. The title doesn’t fit, in my opinion, and the book promotion is just plain wrong. The word obsessed is stronger than the manner in which this killer behaved. New York City doesn’t even know there is a serial killer. Bennett’s daughter is NOT the object of the killer’s ‘obsession’ — there is no connection at all! Whoever wrote the promotional material either read a different book or didn’t read the book at all. This book is more of a police procedural than a psychological thriller. In summary, different than most of the other Michael Bennett books, misleading title, wrong promotional info and somewhat disappointing. If you have a long to-be-read list, just skim or speed read this one and hope the next in the series is better.
4.0 out of 5 stars Another Bennett Thriller
I always enjoy Michael Bennett stories. This tale about Bennett's investigation into a serial killer of young women takes you down an interesting trail. What did the women have in common that led to their death. And multiple suspects come and go before the killer is revealed. As always this series gets into Bennett's family of 10 children. That part of every story humanizes Bennett but it feels too contrived for my liking. His family life has some issues but is too good to be true. That is the only reason I take my rating from 5 to 4.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read!
I just love the Michael Bennett series! The character development is awesome. You definitely feel like a part of this family. Its always bitter sweet to finish on of these books. I look forward to the next one.
Pretty boring
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } Not quite what I'd like to say about a Michael Bennet thriller but James O'Born is a pretty boring author more on descriptions & English rather than action suspense & thrills which are normally associated with a Bennett novel Patterson needs to chose his co-authors very carefully
Spannend
Ein weiters Buch, dass dich dazu bringt bereits die nächste Seite lesen zu wollen.Dank der Geschichten über die Familie hat man das Gefühl mitten drin zu sein. Ich freue mich schon auf das nächste…
Excellent.
This is a terrific book. It does move relatively fast but it's the story that is so good and makes you keep reading to find out what was going on. It's not an edge-of-your-seat, but it is a compelling read.
Sooo good
Such a good book. There are so many twists. Had me enthralled the whole book.I haven't read much lately, and I'm so glad I've started reading regularly again
Nothing to write home about
i have read most of Patterson's ( &co) books with pleasure, but this one left me quite cold, I finished it because of the amazingly high cost of the Kindle version.
