Blood Moon

Description:

In this sexy thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Sandra Brown, an unruly detective and an ambitious TV show producer work against the clock to prevent another young woman from disappearing before the next blood moon—while trying to resist the attraction between them.

Detective John Bowie is one misstep away from being fired from the Auclair Police Department in coastal Louisiana. Recently divorced and slightly heavy-handed with his liquor, Bowie does all that he can to cope with the actions taken (or not taken) during the investigation of Crissy Mellin, a teenage girl who disappeared more than three years prior. But now,
Crisis Point, a long-running true crime television series, is soon to air an episode documenting the unsolved Mellin case. Bowie has been instructed by his boss to keep to his criticisms over the mishandling of the investigation to himself.

Beth Collins, a senior producer on
Crisis Point, knows what classifies as a great story and when there’s something more to be told. After working on the show for seven years, Collins is convinced that Crissy Mellin’s disappearance was not an isolated incident. A string of disappearances of teenage girls in nearby areas have only one thing in common: They took place on the night of a blood moon. In a last-ditch effort to find out the truth, Beth enlists Detective Bowie to help her figure out what happened to Crissy and find the true culprit before he acts on the next blood moon—in four days’ time.

With their jobs and their lives at risk, Bowie and Collins band together to catch the killer while fighting an irresistible spark between them that threatens to upend everything.

Review

“Fast paced, complex, and deliciously scary.  Sandra Brown has done it again!"―Kathy Reichs, author of the Temperance Brennan Bones series

"As a lifelong, ravenous Sandra Brown reader, I can say that BLOOD MOON is vintage Brown! This fast-paced, steamy romantic thriller features every element that makes her the queen of addictive storytelling: a broken, grizzled hero; a whip-smart, savvy heroine; the missing person case they’re trying to solve; and the irresistible attraction they’re powerless to deny. BLOOD MOON was the wildest ride—it kept me guessing till the last page. An absolute tour de force!"
 ―
Tia Williams, New York Times bestselling author of A Love Song for Ricki Wilde

"The romantic angle leavens the dark theme, and readers will have plenty of incentives to turn the pages. A satisfying crime novel with a side order of romance."―
Kirkus

"From their first meeting, Bowie’s and Beth’s chemistry is palpable, and Brown peppers their sleuthing with plenty of steamy sex scenes...Brown’s fans will get exactly what they came for."―
Publishers Weekly

"Rich in atmosphere that can best be described as Cajun-noir, led by great characters and told in prose that shimmers off the page,
Blood Moon is an exquisite exercise in primal terror. A psychological thriller extraordinaire that showcases Brown at the height of her powers."―BookTrib

5.0 out of 5 stars Intense, gripping, scary story

Brown will rope you in to this story immediately. Excellent characters and story. The evil in some people is unimaginable to normal folks. But, sociopaths don’t think like a normal person. Disillusioned, scarred, and angry cop. A production assistant who is determined to find out the truth. A sociopath who worships Luna. All these elements combine to make a compelling, powerful story that will keep you reading. Excellent story by Brown. She is a fabulous author.

3.0 out of 5 stars Blood Moon

N.P. · April 28, 2025

My first SB novel was Charade in 1995. I still remember the heart-racing, can’t put it down, all the twists and turns, need to get to the finish line feel of that story. I came to expect that same writing style through all of SB’s books I’ve read over the course of the last 30 years. The majority were hits; very few misses. Blood Moon was a very satisfying read, but lacked the heart-racing aspect and it took me some time to finish due to that absence. I enjoyed the storyline, the working/turned romantic relationship between the two protagonists, the didn’t see that coming aspect, and the satisfying result. It wasn’t, for my taste, one of the best I’ve read, but it definitely is one that should be read if you enjoy SB novels or thrillers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Det.Bowie never gives up!

P. · March 7, 2025

Sandra Brown has written yet another interesting mystery. Det. Bowie is dealing with a couple corrupt police in his office as well as a case he can't let go. I'd never heard of Luna so this was a bit of a lesson for me. The story moves along nicely keeping your interest.Mystery romance and a surprise near the end all in one story.Well worth the read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blood Moon

D.L.C. · March 13, 2025

I really liked Blood Moon. I believe the release date was intentionally done in connection with the blood moon occurring on March 13-14, 2025.John and Beth steam things up in the heat of Louisiana- while the timing of the blood moon urges them toward finding a suspected kidnapper/ killer that has eluded capture. John and Beth find how they both complete and compliment one another.I found the characters and the plot to be true Sandra Brown style. The twist at the end surrounding the previous victim that had John in turmoil for more then three years was a fantastic way to help John regain himself. Beth was also able to come to terms with her role as a producer of Crisis Pointe and her mentor who would have been proud of her and her gumption in seeing the project to the end no matter the consequences.Bravo-- you've done it again Sandra Brown, one of your top fans remains expectant of your next release.
